THE BOY AND THE HERON Sets Max Streaming Release Date, BG3’s Karlach & Astarion Have Adventures, and Other News Odds & Ends

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for both anime and RPGs, I must say this double dose of news has me grinning ear to ear!

Title Sequence: “The Boy and the Heron” Confirms U.S. Streaming Premiere Date

The Boy and the Heron

Fans rejoice! Hayao Miyazaki’s acclaimed film, “The Boy and the Heron,” is making its way to US streaming services at last. Starting September 6, you can catch this Studio Ghibli masterpiece exclusively on Max. The popular streamer now houses the entire Studio Ghibli collection.

A synopsis of the The Boy and the Heron shares:

After my mother tragically passed away in a hospital blaze, I find myself relocating to our family’s tranquil rural estate. Strange occurrences start happening around me, leading me to an isolated, ancient tower that seems to be inhabited by a sly gray heron. When my wicked stepmother vanishes without a trace, I decide to follow the heron into the tower and stumble upon a breathtaking realm where the living and the deceased coexist. On this incredible adventure with the heron as my compass, I must unravel the secrets of this world and discover the truth about myself. This captivating journey comes to life through the voices of Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson, and Florence Pugh.

Baldur’s Gate 3

As a longtime fan of Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur’s Gate, I was thrilled to learn that two of my favorite companions, Karlach and Astarion, have embarked on their own adventure in the Underdark! With Samantha Béart lending her voice to the fierce dwarf Karlach, and Neil Newbon bringing Astarion’s seductive charm to life, I couldn’t wait to see what these characters would get up to when left out of Tav’s adventuring party. Having played both Baldur’s Gate 2 and numerous D&D campaigns, I can only imagine the new friends they’ll meet and challenges they’ll face as they delve deeper into this dark underground realm. The live Dungeons & Dragons show at GenCon promises an exciting exploration of their solo adventure, and I can hardly wait to follow along!

Sounds delightful!
