Actress Heather Tom, known for her role as Katie Logan Spencer on “The Bold and Beautiful,” receives a unique recognition on CBS daytime soap! With her 35-year association with the show coming up, the producers are commemorating Tom’s significant milestone by granting her creative control over a special episode.
In a unique tribute for Women’s History Month, she is set to script, guide, and perform in a female-centric episode of our daytime soap opera. This groundbreaking special will spotlight several prominent actresses from the series.
Besides Tom, the show will feature Rebecca Budig playing Taylor, Annika Noelle as Hope, Katherine Kelly Lang in her role as Brooke, Jennifer Gareis portraying Donna, and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood taking on Steffy.
Tom explained to Deadline that he discussed the origins of the special episode, mentioning that an all-female episode is quite uncommon in daytime soaps. Screenwriter Brad Bell presented him with a distinctive chance to fulfill three roles – director, writer, and actor – for just one episode.
The six-time Daytime Emmy winner expressed excitement by saying, “That sounds intriguing!” Upon talking about the production details, they agreed that the show should be broadcasted during Women’s History Month due to its important historical relevance.
The 18-minute segment delves into the intricate dynamics of mother-daughter bonds depicted in the series. Notably, the crew working off-camera is entirely women-led, including a female stage manager, an assistant director, and skilled editors who are instrumental in bringing this production to life.
Back in 2020, it wasn’t the first time a daytime drama had an entire episode made solely by women; General Hospital had already done so with a script centered around suffrage, directed by a woman, and featuring an exclusively female cast.
About the topic of B&B’s Women’s History Month episode, Tom shared her excitement, stating, “I find mother-daughter relationships fascinating and influential.” Being without her own mother now, she pointed out that this episode would hold a lot of “emotion” and significance for her personally.
The special female-led episode of The Bold and the Beautiful will premiere on March 27.
