It’s been quite a while since fans of superheroes have seen work from Sam Raimi in the world of Spider-Man. Those who love Spider-Man were thrilled to see Tobey Maguire reprise his role as the iconic hero in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. But, over time, the possibility of another film directed by him has become less likely.
Talk about a possible fourth film in the series is growing, especially after Batman writer Mattson Tomlin shared his enthusiasm about working with the well-known director. He’s expressed interest in a potential collaboration.
Trying!

Following a fan account’s playful comment – “Here’s your money to write the script” – referencing a potential fourth movie, Tomlin responded with, “Trying!” When questioned about whether he was speaking with Raimi, Tomlin gave the identical reply.
This isn’t the first time the director has hinted at a fourth Spider-Man movie, either. Earlier, in July, he discussed his ideas for another film-one that would show the beloved hero taking on a more grown-up and serious role.
To be honest, what I’d really love to work on right now is a Spider-Man 4 featuring Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man balancing his life as a husband and father. After the last eight movies, exploring Spider-Man as a father is what really appeals to me.

What This Means For The Franchise
For years, people have talked about Tobey Maguire potentially reprising his role as the beloved Spider-Man in a fourth film. Actually, director Sam Raimi started working on another movie as early as 2010, but the project was cancelled because of disagreements about the story. Afterwards, the series was rebooted with Andrew Garfield taking on the role of the teenage web-slinger.
Tomlin is determined to revive Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man universe, offering fans renewed hope for a prequel. If this partnership comes to fruition, it could create a link between the original trilogy and the larger Spider-Man multiverse – something we previously saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Considering Raimi’s ties to both Sony and Marvel, this possibility is definitely within the realm of possibility.

Currently, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios haven’t officially announced whether they’ll continue the story started by Sam Raimi. However, the idea is still very exciting for dedicated fans of Tobey Maguire.
For now, it’s unclear what will happen with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man story. However, fans of the Spider-Man universe can anticipate Tom Holland returning as the popular hero in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie is scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026.
