‘The Batman’ Mistakes You’ll Never Be Able to Unsee

I absolutely loved ‘The Batman,’ but even a film that detailed has a few little mistakes if you really look for them. With all the rain and dark scenes, it’s easy to miss things the first time around. I’ve noticed a few continuity errors – things like reflections that don’t quite match up or small changes in what characters are wearing between shots. They don’t ruin the movie at all, but they’re fun to spot when you watch it again and really pay attention to the details. I found ten little goofs you can check out next time you’re in Gotham!

Funeral Hair Switch

In the church scene honoring Martha Wayne, Bruce Wayne moves through the crowd and speaks to different people. As the camera switches between shots, his hair appears to change length and style inconsistently. Sometimes it’s longer, other times shorter and neater, which doesn’t quite match the flow of the scene. This likely happened because the scene was filmed on different days. You can clearly see the difference when he makes eye contact with the mayor’s son and then looks down the aisle.

Riddler Video Call Reflection

During the phone call between Batman and the Riddler, a subtle detail in a reflection reveals a hidden clue. When the call is transferred to the District Attorney, the Riddler’s glasses briefly reflect Batman’s image, even after the phone is turned away from him. This suggests the reflection wasn’t updated to match the new camera angle. It’s a quick shot, but noticeable when watching the scene frame by frame.

Batmobile Jump Timing

The high-speed chase culminates in a dramatic crash and explosion, launching the Batmobile into the air. The editing creates a noticeable pause between the explosions and the car emerging from the flames. Considering how far apart things appeared in earlier shots, this pause feels too long for the actual distance. The car seems to linger outside the frame before dramatically reappearing, and this delay makes the jump feel disconnected from the rest of the chaotic scene.

Warehouse Vanish To Car

During the confrontation at the drug warehouse, Batman is hit by gunfire as Penguin’s men move forward. Penguin looks down at where Batman fell, but he’s suddenly gone – and the Batmobile speeds towards them from behind. The way the scene was lit and filmed doesn’t allow for a believable escape route. The quick transition feels like a jump cut, not a smooth, hidden movement that we can follow.

Penguin Seat Belt Pop In

The car chase scene uses quick cuts between inside and outside the vehicle, showing rain and smoke. A noticeable detail is a shoulder belt that appears and disappears on Oswald Cobblepot – it’s visible in one shot, then gone in the next. This happens because of the fast pace of filming and the need to quickly reset things between takes. Pay attention to close-ups of Cobblepot’s face as he looks at the Batmobile in his mirror.

Handcuff Style Swap

After Penguin is captured following the crash, a continuity error is visible with his handcuffs. Sometimes they appear to be metal, and other times they look like plastic with a different color and size. This likely happened because the scene was filmed with shots taken at different times and locations, resulting in the use of different props. You can clearly see the change when Penguin is walking and complaining about the clue written in Spanish.

Dry After The Flip

During a car crash in the rain, Penguin’s vehicle flips over. We then see him suspended by his safety harness as Batman arrives. The amount of water visible inside the car – on the roof and Penguin’s face – seems to change inconsistently, going from completely soaked to almost dry. While the outside of the car remains wet and streaked, the inside briefly appears less saturated. This suggests the interior shots were filmed on a set, making it difficult to maintain a consistent look for the water effects.

Arena Water Level Shift

After the seawall broke and flooded Gotham Square Garden, footage shows how high the water reached inside. During the fight, the water level appeared to change slightly in different shots – sometimes rising or falling by a few inches compared to fixed points like railings and seats. This was likely due to how the crowd moved and temporary safety adjustments. The changing water level is especially noticeable when Batman uses a flare to lead people to safety.

Bomb Collar Countdown Drift

During the funeral scene, the explosive collar’s countdown timer is visibly inconsistent. The numbers on the phone and the collar itself don’t decrease at a steady pace, and the time shown doesn’t match up with how much dialogue happens. This inconsistency was likely caused by editing – using different shots and inserts probably threw off the timing. You can notice this by comparing the close-ups of the phone to the display on the collar itself.

Envelope Seal Changes

During the investigation, Batman repeatedly receives envelopes from the Riddler, easily identified by their unique seals and folds. At one crime scene, the same envelope appears both intact with a wax seal and then, moments later, with a torn flap and no wax. This change happens as the envelope is passed around and inspected for clues. This inconsistency is typical when props like letters are duplicated for filming different shots.
