Recent reports indicate that the upcoming Batman sequel is heavily drawing inspiration from a popular DC comic book storyline. Film industry insider Jeff Sneider claims the movie is taking strong cues from “Batman: The Long Halloween.”
Matt Reeves is drawing inspiration from a well-known Batman comic as he develops the next film in the series, according to Sneider. While he won’t be directly copying the comic’s story, its overall feel and central ideas will definitely be reflected in the movie’s plot and themes.
Batman: The Long Halloween is a popular comic book series created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Originally published in the late 1990s, it tells the story of Batman as a young detective investigating a mysterious killer who only attacks on holidays.

Throughout the story, Batman teams up with Harvey Dent and Jim Gordon. The comic depicts a shift in Gotham City, moving from traditional organized crime to a rise in costumed criminals. It’s particularly famous for revealing the story of how Harvey Dent became Two-Face and for its gritty, crime-focused atmosphere.
This comic is known for its mature themes, well-developed characters, and engaging mystery. It’s had a lasting impact on Batman adaptations, with its influence visible in films like Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Matt Reeves’ 2022 Batman movie. An animated adaptation of the story also came out in two parts in 2021.
The next Batman movie is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves will direct and co-write the film, again partnering with Mattson Tomlin. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, and he’ll be joined by returning cast members Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. There are also reports that Scarlett Johansson is being considered for a role in the movie.
The next movie will continue the story after the first one, showing Gotham City struggling with widespread chaos, crime, and corruption in the aftermath of a major flood. Production is anticipated to start in May 2026, and filming will take place in England and Scotland. Film journalist Jeff Sneider reported that the movie will be connected to the story of ‘The Long Halloween’.
