At the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Matt Reeves was queried regarding the postponement of “The Batman: Part II,” which had its release date pushed back by an entire year.
Reeves didn’t provide many details beyond reiterating his plans to film this year, but he did reveal a tidbit: the original cast is coming back, along with some new faces. It has been confirmed that Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell will be back, with Farrell playing the role of Penguin. According to IMDb, Jeffrey Wright is returning as Gordon and Andy Serkis is set to play Alfred. However, it’s unclear if Zoe Kravitz will reprise her role as Selina Kyle (a.k.a Catwoman). As for the new cast members, that information has yet to be disclosed.
Let me share some exciting news with you – we’ll be doing some filming this year, and we’re genuinely thrilled about it! Unfortunately, I can’t reveal much about it right now, but trust me, we’re really looking forward to it!
Reeves was also asked what he think the fans will like the most:
Let me assure you, the narrative is unfolding further… As for revealing details at this moment, I’m afraid I can’t do that just yet [smiles]. However, I value your patience and understanding.
I’m truly thrilled to embark on this project, and it’s a joy to reunite our team and welcome fresh talents. We’re buzzing with anticipation for it. What excites me most is the feeling that we’re carrying on the narrative in a way that feels authentic yet unexpected, and I hope audiences are left pleasantly surprised.

Lot of unrest in the sequel
Lately, Reeves hinted at the narrative of the sequel having elements that are less clearly defined as right or wrong, contrasting with the first movie’s clear-cut good versus evil themes.
There’s a great deal of confusion and demands following the revelations at the end of the film. People are wondering and protesting in the streets: ‘How could this be?’ They are shocked to learn about the extent of the corruption. In the initial movie, Batman sees things quite straightforwardly, in terms of black and white. He’s grappling with what he can do and how he can make a difference.
Stepping into the next film, there’s an increase in complexity. There are more conflicting parties, more discord within the city, and a greater resemblance to our current world with its chaos and division. The lines between good and evil aren’t so clear anymore, making it harder to be Batman. This ambiguity raises questions about where Batman fits in this scenario, and where we as viewers fit too. It’s no longer a simple case of ‘bad guy, I go after bad guys’. Instead, it presents a challenge, as the gray areas make it difficult to uphold the Batman persona.
The Batman: Part II gets released Oct. 1, 2027.
