
Vertical has unveiled the trailer and poster for its upcoming psychological thriller, *The Astronaut*, which will be released in cinemas on October 17, 2025.
Jess Varley’s film, The Astronaut, debuted at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in 2025, starring Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne.

Plot
Astronaut Sam Walker, played by Kate Mara, survives a crash landing back to Earth, her capsule found damaged off the Atlantic coast. General William Harris, portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, quickly puts her in quarantine, where NASA closely monitors her recovery and runs tests.
While recovering from her ordeal, strange things start happening. Sam begins to worry that an alien presence has followed her home, making her question if she’ll survive and what exactly came back with her.

I just heard about this new movie, The Astronaut, and the cast sounds amazing! It’s got Kate Mara, Laurence Fishburne, Gabriel Luna, Ivana Milicevic, Macy Gray, and a newcomer named Scarlett Holmes. I’m definitely adding it to my watchlist!
Jess Varley wrote and directed the film, and Brad Fuller, Eric B. Fleischman, Chris Abernathy, and Cameron Fuller produced it.
