As a dedicated follower of political dramas, I eagerly anticipate the release of “The Apprentice.” Having closely observed the rise and fall of powerful figures, I am intrigued by the portrayal of Donald Trump’s life and ascension to power. The first look at Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn hints at a fascinating exploration of the amateur status of the former president in the position of power.
The TV series, “The Apprentice,” delves into Donald Trump’s life and rise to power! A sneak peek from Briarcliff Entertainment features Sebastian Stan portraying Trump attempting a phone interview, repeatedly prompted by his mentor Roy Cohn (played by Jeremy Strong). This suggests that his character may struggle with the responsibilities of power.
In Ali Abbasi’s direction and script penned by Gabe Sherman, the movie features Emmy award-winners Stan and Strong alongside Martin Donovan portraying Fred Trump Sr and Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump. Previously known from Tenet, Donovan. This biopic had its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival but encountered opposition from supporters of Trump.
The film was initially backed by Dan Snyder, a staunch conservative and a friend of Trump. Still, due to the controversies and his objection to the malicious portrayal of the former president, he detached his name from the project. Finally, Tom Ortenberg’s Briarcliff Entertainment acquired it for domestic distribution.
In spite of opposition from former President’s supporters and potential legal issues, Abbasi remained confident in his work and stayed true to his beliefs. He even referred to the U.S. elections as a promotional opportunity for the movie. “We have a promotional event called the U.S. election, it will benefit the film,” he stated at Cannes press earlier. “We’re really hoping that it can be released,” he added in reference to the movie.
This year’s Telluride film festival quietly included the movie on its schedule, as stated by Deadline. The premiere of the film went smoothly, according to their report. Additionally, The Apprentice crew expected backlash from the ex-President’s followers and potential protests regarding the screening.
As an avid admirer, I’ve dived headfirst into this American landscape, scrutinizing the nation, its structure, and certain personalities – that’s what I shared about my movie, Abbasi mentioned. With a playful wink, he even hinted at Trump, teasingly announcing his “star guest” and setting aside seats for him and his security detail. “He might make an appearance under the cover of night,” the director hinted mysteriously.
