Later, Kyou-u attempts to aid Maomao in fleeing but is apprehended instead. When captured, Maomao confesses and gets imprisoned in the Taibon along with venomous creatures. Swiftly adapting, she manages to prepare edible meals from them.
After that, she manages to persuade the guard with a bribe, who leads her to the stronghold’s gunpowder factory and alerts her about an incoming army. She observes Loulan demolish the plant, and discovers Suirei is of imperial descent. The story concludes as Loulan reveals poisoned children – among them Kyou-u – intended for a swift, painless death before their clan’s downfall.
