Sorry, folks. Any reports claiming The Acolyte is officially returning just aren’t legit.
Tie-In Books Drop, But The Acolyte Isn’t Coming Back
This week, a handful of companion books for the show “The Acolyte” are being published. Just as with the series, it seems unlikely that many people will purchase these books. However, this does not necessarily imply that the show will be renewed for another season.
Among the Star Wars series available on Disney+, “The Acolyte” is one of the least-viewed. This low viewership has also negatively impacted the anticipation for another upcoming series called “Skeleton Crew”, as it too will not be getting a second season.
Fans Reject The Acolyte
The show faced intense criticism from viewers due to its weak narrative, and surprisingly, there’s a lack of demand for further episodes. Instead, most fans seem eager to distance themselves from The Acolyte.
The Star Wars series with the lowest rating on Rotten Tomatoes is the one that has garnered a 19% Audience Score. Additionally, its leading actress has been a subject of much debate and discussion.
Even Disney Admits The Acolyte will not return
Even Disney has said The Acolyte isn’t returning.
Alan Bergman, Disney Entertainment’s co-chair, explained in December that “the cost structure of that title made it not suitable for us to proceed with a second season at this time.
According to the statements made by Disney executives, “The Acolyte” was a costly show to create. More recently, the creator of “Andor,” Tony Gilroy, hinted that Disney is facing financial difficulties. Consequently, it appears that we won’t be seeing any more shows with budgets exceeding $200 million.
Strong is the fan backlash To The Acolyte
One viewer’s critique on Rotten Tomatoes is that the storyline is overly convenient and the actions of the main characters are unbelievable, giving off an impression that the Jedi are being presented as villains. It’s unfortunate because I’ve appreciated the High Republic novels…but the depiction of Vernestra in this series contradicts her character as developed in the books. I didn’t find it enjoyable and wouldn’t rewatch it.
Another adds The Acolyte is “made with a certain agenda in mine.”
Despite all the poor reviews swirling around, a devoted Star Wars fan continues to watch each new release,” he says. “Growing up as a fan, I’ve always tried to maintain optimism for every movie or series, even those with lower ratings (such as Episodes VII to IX). In truth, I found myself not caring about what others thought after watching them because I genuinely enjoyed them.
The fan asserts, “However, this time I find myself struggling to back the reviews for The Acolyte. It appears as though the series was crafted with a specific purpose, and each episode only intensifies my bewilderment. It’s not primarily about the action or the performances, it’s the narrative and its alignment (or lack thereof) within the established universe that spans decades.
No Future for Qimir, Osha, or Plagueis—Just Fan Fiction Now
As a devoted film enthusiast, it seems we’re left to imagine expansive backstories for characters like The Stranger (Qimir), Osha, Mae, and even Darth Plagueis, whose appearance was almost a last-ditch effort, becoming little more than captivating pieces of fan-generated lore.
Due to the unsuccessful run of “The Acolyte”, Disney has made adjustments to their budgets and reduced the amount of Star Wars content available on Disney+. The second season of “Ahsoka” is being produced, although there are whispers that it too may face cancellation after its second season.
