THE ACOLYTE Brought an Important Sith Lord to Live-Action STAR WARS

As a long-time fan of Star Wars, I can’t help but be captivated by the enigmatic character of Darth Plagueis the Wise. His story is one that resonates with me on a deep level, as it explores themes of power, ambition, and the consequences of seeking to defy the natural order of life and death.

At last, an exciting development unfolded in “The Acolyte”‘s season finale. The elusive Stranger wasn’t the sole dark side practitioner residing on his secluded planet. As Qimir and Osha departed, a formidable Muun Sith Lord, Master of Darth Sidious, emerged from obscurity. In the shadows, Darth Plagueis was revealed to be present. Most significantly, he is privy to knowledge about the galaxy’s most extraordinary creation.

As a huge fan of the Star Wars saga, I’d describe it this way: In the thrilling world of the prequels, filled with intense battles and saber duels, one particularly gripping scene unfolded during an unexpectedly quiet moment in space. In the climactic film, Revenge of the Sith, Chancellor Palpatine captivated Anakin Skywalker with a fascinating Sith tale that the Jedi Order had kept hidden from him. Palpatine shared a forbidden story, “The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise.”

I, as a devoted fan, can recount how Anakin’s mind was tormented by haunting visions of Padmé’s demise, a future he deeply yearned to alter. Palpatine, with his cunning manipulation, exploited Anakin’s fears by sharing tales of extraordinary “unnatural” abilities bestowed upon those who chose an alternative pathway in the Force. He spoke of the legendary Sith Lord named Plagueis, who supposedly possessed such profound understanding of the dark side that he could even prevent the deaths of those he cherished by controlling midi-chlorians. For a young man desperate to save his beloved wife from the clutches of death, this tantalizing offer was more than enough to begin drawing Anakin away from the light.

An intriguing aspect of Plagueis’ tale that kept it alive wasn’t his rumored powers but rather his tragic end. This twist hinted at a deeper significance for Plagueis than merely being a manipulation device. According to Palpatine, Plagueis became so powerful that he was terrified of losing control – a fear that ultimately came true. His apprentice, having gained all the knowledge he needed from his Master, ended Plagueis’ life in his sleep. As Palpatine wryly commented, “He could save others from death, but not himself.”

Did Palpatine deceitfully mix truths with falsehoods about his past, or was he genuinely open with Anakin? If the events Palpatine described truly transpired, the implications were intriguing: Palpatine was none other than the former apprentice who had murdered Plagueis.

As a devoted gamer immersed in the Star Wars universe, I can confirm that Plagueis, as depicted off-screen, lived up to Palpatine’s descriptions in the Disney-era canonical stories. He was an incredibly powerful Sith Lord, capable of creating life and saving others from death. However, the intriguing detail that has come to light is Plagueis’ fixation on the science of immortality. This power, long coveted by the Sith Lords, consumed him so much that he became distracted.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but ponder what could have been if only Plagueis the Wise had heeded the signs. I myself would have urged him to read my apprentice Palpatine more carefully. His ambition was evident, and I believe Plagueis should have suspected that he harbored a deadly plot against his master. Alas, such foresight eluded Plagueis, and he tragically remained oblivious to the impending doom that awaited him.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on how Plagueis’ legacy continued to shape the galaxy long after his demise. His teachings, which I hold in high regard, lived on through his apprentice, who dedicated countless generations to the pursuit of immortality. Without Plagueis’ groundbreaking discoveries, Palpatine wouldn’t have been able to return from the dead in “Return of the Jedi.” He would never have conceived the idea of creating a clone body for himself or manipulated Snoke into leading Ben Solo down the dark path of the Force. Plagueis’ enduring influence remains an integral part of Star Wars lore, forever changing the course of its history.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as follows: I’ve come to realize that Plagueis’ relentless obsession leading to his demise was deeply rooted in the extraordinary abilities of The Acolyte’s twins. I’ve learned about Mother Aniseya and her miraculous creation – two unique individuals born from one, all achieved through the power of the Force. This groundbreaking achievement could have set Plagueis on a transformative journey, not just to manipulate life but to dominate it, ultimately leading to control over death. His subsequent work, later adopted by Palpatine, may never have come to fruition without the twins’ influence.

As a gamer, I pondered over the mysterious character of Qimir. How on this uncharted planet did he stumble upon Mae and Osha? Why was he hiding in a cave to begin with? It’s a long shot, but it’s not impossible that Qimir knew Plagueis was there. But was he really Plagueis’ apprentice?

The mysterious planet could have been attracting Plagueis with its strong connection to the dark side of the Force. It’s also possible that Osha’s arrival was the catalyst for Plagueis’ presence there. As a powerful Sith Lord, Plagueis may have been irresistibly drawn to this dark side planet by the presence of Osha, acting as a beacon for him.

The reason he went there is secondary compared to what he discovered. Mother Aniseya’s daughters share many similarities with Anakin Skywalker, yet they don’t possess his immense power. According to “The Acolyte” showrunner Leslye Headland, the twins served as subjects in the galaxy’s most significant experiment. Darth Plagueis gained knowledge of it directly and spent his life refining this discovery. Regrettably, the imminent powers bestowed upon his apprentice in the dark side of the Force will enable him to bring about the downfall of both the Jedi and the Sith. However, before this can occur, he must eliminate Plagueis the Wise first.

I’ve had the pleasure of being a long-time staff writer at TopMob, where I’ve spent decades eagerly anticipating the appearance of the enigmatic Darth Plagueis. It’s been quite a journey, full of intrigue and patience. Keeping up with my musings and insights can be done by following me on Twitter and Bluesky under the handle @burgermike.
