Avowed is an engaging, richly-tale open-world RPG where you confront the Dreamscourge, a perplexing affliction sweeping through the Living Lands. However, beyond this enigma, there’s political instability and ideological disputes to navigate, which necessitates tough choices.
In addition, while the central narrative of Avowed is captivating, its side quests should not be underestimated. Some of these parallel the main storyline subtly, while others provide a more profound look into the everyday challenges faced by the residents of the Living Lands. These include tracking down another divine entity and unwittingly aiding in a murder investigation – here are some exceptional side quests found in Avowed.

Keep History Alive
As a fervent admirer, I must confess that the Pargrunen are typically standoffish towards strangers. However, an unusual predicament has arisen: our Living Archive monks are grappling with an influx of Dreamthralls in their library. The potential loss of invaluable historical records is imminent, and they find themselves compelled to seek assistance from the outside. Consequently, I, as the Envoy, have been dispatched on a mission to recover two indispensable books that these monks cannot do without.
In my own words, gathering those books isn’t a simple task, but it becomes intriguing when a beginner asks me to hand them over to her. As our journey unfolds, I’ll eventually uncover her true motives in the heart of the storyline.

Don’t Look Down
In this secondary mission, the Messenger encounters Moapo and is asked if they can deliver supplies for two individuals claimed by him to have been cleaning the region of Nightmares. However, rather than finding those people, the Messenger discovers an injured Aedyran solider at the foot of a tower who warns that it’s rigged with explosives and dangerous traps.
The Emissary climbs the treacherous tower to locate Katoa and Haiako. Instead of slaying phantom beings known as Dreamthralls, this pair has been enticing Aedyrans, using traps to eliminate them, in an effort to prevent Aedyrans from establishing a stronghold in the region. The decision on whether to eliminate these two or negotiate with them lies with you.

One Last Drink

In Thirdborn, encountering Captain Ngunu initially gives off an impression of exuberance and deep affection for the Aedyran Empire. However, there’s an unsettling quality about him that becomes more apparent when he requests you to gather his old crew members for a casual reunion.
Only when you retrieve Ruanga does she disclose a past secret: she, along with crewmate Kohwa, had previously taken from Ngunu. Suspecting a malicious plot, she declines to participate. You have several options for handling this mission, so think before you act.

Heart Of Valor
In a touching yet challenging side mission called Heart of Valor, the Envoy encounters Keipo, an esteemed hunter who secluded himself within his home for unknown reasons. He requests your aid in retrieving the leviathan heart from a hidden location, stating that he yearns to witness it before his final moments.
Following a harrowing journey through a dangerous, trapped-filled ruin, the Messenger encounters Chiko, Keipo’s niece. She discloses that Keipo intends to fashion the leviathan heart into a poison for his own suicide. The Messenger is faced with an ethical quandary: whether to hand over the leviathan heart to Keipo or not, and if it’s right to allow someone to choose their own death, knowing the pain it will bring to their family members.

That Which Remains
In the clutches of the Dreamscourge, Shatterscarp often reveals deserted homes. However, when the Envoy investigates the ashes of what seemed like a simple village, Scaedclef, there’s something more intriguing about this place than initially perceived.
Upon lowering myself into and navigating the depths of the well, I find myself face-to-face with captive Dreamthralls confined within cages, alongside three fellow survivors. They explain they were studying a remedy for the Dreamscourge when an outbreak ensued. The decision now lies with me: execute the Dreamthralls or determine the fate of these survivors – should I escort them to Eagle’s Reach, provide supplies, or end their lives?

Steel Resolve

Typically, wrapping up a bounty brings a generous stash of coins, however, subduing the Trantons in Emerald Stair results in deceit and a dangerous plot unraveling. The disappearance of a ranger prompts the Envoy to launch an investigation, which ultimately exposes that one of the rangers, Dorso, has been secretly working with the Steel Garotte.
When speaking with Dorso, you have the ability to coax her into disclosing the hidden location of the Steel Garotte. Whether you choose to eliminate Dorso or banish her, be aware that if you decide to spare her, she’ll turn against you during the Siege of Paradis. Also, should you fail to venture to the cave where the Steel Garotte is concealed and clean it out, a specific city may meet a fiery end.

Chorus Of The Lost
During this quest, it’s revealed that Marius seems reluctant to discuss his homeland. However, as we embark on our journey alongside him to the mysterious Lost Village, it becomes clear why he kept his past hidden – for it is here where Marius’ long-suppressed memories of his past resurface.
It is revealed that Marius’ hometown was affiliated with a cult, led by Razvan, which tragically carried out a mass suicide as part of their rituals. After learning that Razvan is still alive, the Envoy ventures into the surrounding ruins to locate him. Upon finding Razvan, he appears to have lost his mind, haunted by the tormented spirits of those he had caused harm. Once again, you are given the opportunity to decide Razvan’s destiny; no matter your choice, it aids Marius in moving past a deeply troubling episode in his life.

Dawntreader
Initially, I thought Dawntreader would follow the usual pattern of search-and-rescue missions, but it quickly veered off in unforeseen directions. Upon hearing about an Aedyran expedition team vanishing while delving into an ancient ruin, I decided to join the rescue effort and also look into a tantalizing whisper that a deity dwells within.
In our story, we encounter Sargamis, a divine being associated with Eothas, who has constructed an enigmatic statue within the temple of Eothas. However, in a chilling revelation, it is revealed that Sargamis aims to harness the souls of the exploration team to energize his statue, with the ultimate goal of resurrecting Eothas. The Envoy is faced with a challenging decision: either aid or eliminate Sargamis. Yet, regardless of your choice, you will be rewarded with Sargamis’ sword, a remarkable and exclusive weapon in the game.
