Elden Ring: Nightreign surprised me with how good it is, and there’s still room for improvement. This week’s new downloadable content gives FromSoftware a great opportunity to add unexpected features to this cooperative game.
With a large roster of bosses from the Dark Souls series and many new weapons introduced in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Nightreign offers exciting possibilities. Because the game randomizes both items and bosses, even small updates can dramatically alter each playthrough, keeping things fresh and challenging.
Here’s a list of suggestions – things we’d love to have included, and things we think should be left out – to help make the next 300 hours of gameplay even more enjoyable.
Let me kick Libra to death

I’ve been enjoying playing as the Fist Raider in Deep of Night, and it’s made me realize how effective a simple punch can be! However, Elden Ring is still lacking some great weapons focused on hand-to-hand combat. I was hoping to see a new character specializing in the Dryleaf martial arts style, but FromSoftware could still add both Dryleaf Arts and Dane’s Footwork as usable weapons. This would give players a unique set of moves to learn and use on their adventures.
Also add the Perfume Bottles, you cowards

I feel the same way about Perfume Bottles. It’s disappointing we didn’t get a Perfumer Nightfarer, considering we already have elements like the “Improved Perfuming Arts” relic modifier and the Perfumer’s Talisman in Nightreign. It’s odd that we only received consumable perfumes and not the actual Perfume Bottle weapons from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
These weapons, with their diverse effects, would be a great addition for Nightfarers to use. The Frenzyflame Perfume Bottle, in particular – which causes enemies to go mad – would give players another way to fight Libra, especially since options are currently limited when dealing with her and her madness-inducing attacks.
And the other DLC weapons please and thank you

As the editor, I’m eager to see some popular weapons like light greatswords and backhand blades return. Personally, I’d love to see the Big Katana make a comeback. And, of course, it would be great to include some spells for those who enjoy magic.
Tyler Colp, Contributor: If I don’t get the backhand blades I’ll cry.
Those godawful bird and lion knight guys from the DLC

I’m talking about the people who constantly complain about the game online. Honestly, I want them to suffer! I’d love to see those incredibly difficult enemies from earlier areas suddenly appear in the late game, where they’d be impossible to defeat. I want players to actually wish they were fighting a tough boss like the Bell Bearing Hunter, even if it means breaking their controllers in frustration. They’ve earned it.

Ted: C’mon, it’s a perfect fit. He’d look so cool. Please?
Poison swamp or castle, obviously

Tyler feels Nightreign is missing a truly challenging poison-themed area to be a worthy Elden Ring experience. He thinks the current poison camps aren’t impactful enough and suggests a heavily poisoned location like a castle surrounded by a moat of poison, or a large, terrifying swamp filled with poisonous creatures. He wants an area he’ll dread exploring as much as he dreaded fighting the Bell Bearing Hunter.
A return of the most important FromSoftware NPC

Seriously, where’s Patches? This guy has been a thorn in my side in every FromSoftware game since Demon’s Souls, always popping up to mess with me. But then, in Nightreign, he’s just…gone? I can’t buy it. He needs to be a boss fight – not one that drops runes, but one where you can trade for awesome gear. That would be perfect!
Another unexpected Dark Souls cameo

It looks like FromSoftware is willing to include unexpected bosses in their games, and the fact that the Centipede Demon isn’t widely remembered suggests anyone could appear. That’s why I’d love to see Pinwheel, the strange boss with the eerie music and masks, in the new DLC. I envision a fight where he still creates clones, but this time players would need to coordinate with their teammates to identify the real one. It would be a cool addition if he consistently dropped one of his three masks after each battle, offering a unique, passive bonus not found with other bosses.
Relics should stay as unwieldy as they are

Tyler believes Nightreign’s relic system is great, even though it relies heavily on random chance. He enjoys the thrill of getting lucky with good stat combinations because most of the time you get disappointing results. He doesn’t want the upcoming DLC patch to change this, preferring the system remain unpredictable and somewhat challenging. He feels that allowing players to manually customize relics would shift the focus from making the most of what you find to simply obtaining the ‘best’ ones, and that unpredictability is central to the Nightreign experience.
A remixed map for the new bosses

I’d really like to see the map updated for the new bosses. It would be great if the castle in the center had different enemies and some unexpected features to make it feel unique. Since the downloadable content is set after the Nightreign events, it would be cool if the Limveld area showed signs of that decay. I always enjoy traveling across the map as I get ready for the last boss, so any changes to that experience would be fantastic.
Not a new map, but a new layer to it

I’m really hoping the new DLC adds a whole underground area to explore. We know there’s going to be an event with shifting earth and an underground section, and I’d love it if that wasn’t just a small area, but a full new layer of the map. It would be amazing to find new enemies and items down there, specifically related to the Shadow of the Erdtree content.
