Despite James Gunn and Peter Safran rapidly developing the DC Universe (DCU), the question of who will play the next Batman is still unanswered. It remains a mystery.
Many fans have proposed actors like Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles for the part. However, Ritchson recently shared that discussions with Gunn didn’t result in him being cast as Batman.
There’s increasing buzz about Aaron Taylor-Johnson potentially becoming the next Batman. A fan account on X, called Everything_DCU, pointed out that James Gunn recently began following Taylor-Johnson on Instagram. This has led to speculation that he might be the actor chosen to wear the Batsuit.
Taylor-Johnson has experience with superhero characters. He previously portrayed Pietro Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most recently starred as Kraven the Hunter in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Although Kraven didn’t succeed financially in theaters, reviewers largely complimented Taylor-Johnson’s acting. The actor is also set to appear in several future films, such as 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Werwulf, and Blood on Snow.
In a recent conversation with The Ringer-Verse, James Gunn discussed the ongoing search for an actor to play Batman. He didn’t reveal who is being considered, but he did mention that multiple actors are currently in the running. He implied that the decision hasn’t been made yet.
“Yes, I definitely have some actors in mind for Batman. I have a list of people I like, just like I did when I was casting Superman,” Gunn explained. “People are welcome to speculate, and they might even be correct about a few things, but honestly, everything is still open for discussion.”
He also stressed that they’ll be very thorough when choosing actors. “We’ll need to do screen tests and go through the entire audition process. I wouldn’t just hire someone on a whim. However, it’s not impossible! There’s one well-known actor, specifically, who’s expressed interest in playing Batman. We’ve discussed it, but I’m not convinced it will happen.”
Gunn stated that the script for Batman is still in progress. “The script isn’t complete; we have a writer working on it, and it’s shaping up well, but it’s not finished,” he explained.
It looks like fans will need to be patient to find out who will play Batman in the new DCU. James Gunn is being very deliberate with the casting, so we might see someone new-or even an unexpected actor-take on the famous role.
