The intriguing biblical comedy by Terry Gilliam, titled “Carnival: At The End of Days“, has piqued the interest of Andrea Iervolino, a renowned Italian producer. Iervolino, who has previously financed and produced films like “Ferrari” and “Maserati: The Brothers“, will be backing and producing this film.
Apart from that, he’s planning a trip to the European Film Market in Berlin this month, with the aim of locating potential buyers and representatives for his upcoming project. Filming for this project might commence in Italy as early as April.
Iervolino characterizes “Carnival” as a bold and pioneering production that seamlessly blends real-life footage with an extensive use of computer-generated imagery (CGI). He labels it as one of the costliest independent films ever produced, boasting a distinctively innovative and visionary style.
The movie derives from a screenplay penned by Terry Gilliam and Christopher Brett Bailey. The storyline revolves around God destroying mankind due to their devastation of Earth, with only the character of Satan attempting to prevent this catastrophe. However, Satan is in a state of panic as he has no purpose without human existence.
In his attempt, he endeavors to persuade God that a band of youthful individuals might take up the roles of the new Adam and Eve. However, even with Satan’s best attempts, it seems God is resolute in His intention to wipe out humanity. Gilliam himself has labeled this project as a comical undertaking.
Actors Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Adam Driver, and Jason Momoa are rumored to be part of a movie project. It’s speculated that Johnny Depp might portray Satan and Jeff Bridges could play God, although these roles have yet to be officially confirmed. Given Johnny Depp’s history with Terry Gilliam’s works, such as “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” his involvement seems probable.
Gilliam’s most recent movie was “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” in 2018, a film that he had been working on for over two decades. Fans are crossing their fingers that “Carnival” won’t require as much time before it begins production.
