As a die-hard fan who’s been hooked since the very first episode of Supacell, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news of its return for a second season! Just like the electrifying powers these characters possess, this show has had an electric effect on me, leaving me on the edge of my seat with every twist and turn.
It’s been announced that the hit original series “Supacell” produced by Netflix is coming back for another season. This show focuses on five extraordinary individuals from South London who have superpowers and are trying to navigate their lives with these abilities. The show gained massive popularity through word of mouth, earning it the second spot on Netflix’s popularity chart, just behind Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton”. Given its success, a second season was only natural!
Netflix, along with Strong Black Lead’s Instagram, posted a lively video announcement featuring Tosin Cole, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Adelayo Adedayo, Calvin Demba, Michael Salami, and others who were visibly excited about the upcoming season. The caption below stated, “Spread the word to your mom! Season 2 is confirmed: Supacell will be back!” In other words, get ready for a second installment of Supacell!
At the start of the first season, Michael (Cole) makes a promise to his fellow superhero comrades, declaring, “When I return, they will all face consequences,” hinting at the mysterious group that has been pursuing, deceiving, and in some instances, causing harm to those possessing supacell abilities.
Show creator Rapman, who’s also a rapper and music producer by profession, spoke to Tudum about the renewal of Supacell for season 2. “I’ve always had it [mapped out] to Season 3. I know how Season 2 ends,” he said. “I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years, so I’m ready to go,” Rapman revealed.
Additionally, he discussed one of the main characters from the series, Michael. This individual is known for assembling the group, consisting of Sabrina, Tazer, Rodney, and Andre. From the start, Michael exhibited heroic qualities; in fact, Rapman referred to him as a charming and amiable figure. Nonetheless, the creator didn’t assure any fixed personality traits moving forward and hinted that his character could evolve following such a heart-wrenching tragedy at the end of season 1.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but echo Rapman’s words about the first season being his “Batman Begins.” It was all about setting the stage, laying the groundwork for the captivating narrative that fans will witness unfold in season 2. Just as Batman was transformed from a troubled young man into a crime-fighting icon, our characters are destined to evolve and truly come into their own in season 2. It’s a prequel of what they’ll be like, but the real transformation happens in season 2. That’s when we’ll truly see them become who we know they can be!
In addition, he hinted that the creators have made the series full of surprises. “The future you glimpsed at the end of the first episode in London no longer exists. Everything has been altered. It’s going to be intriguing when we delve into the writers’ room,” Rapman explained.
