In his recent interview promoting the upcoming queer drama, Ponyboi, Dylan O’Brien is facing criticism due to his remarks about his sibling.
In an interview with Vulture, the 33-year-old celebrity hinted at drawing inspiration from his connections within the LGBTQ+ community. He shared insights derived from his real-life experiences, including having a transgender and nonbinary sibling.
The actor expressed gratitude for having a trans, non-binary sibling and friends in their personal life who identify as queer, stating that these relationships enrich their understanding and appreciation of the world around them.
Within a short while of the remarks being shared by another outlet, O’Brien’s brother, Julz O’Brien, reacted on social media. He showed annoyance at being featured in the article without consulting them first.
Julz made it clear that the article focused on them, yet they hadn’t been asked for their input. Moreover, a picture of them was included without crediting or tagging them. Lastly, their identity was incorrectly identified. However, they specified that they are trans masculine and prefer to be referred using both he/they pronouns.
To heighten the strained atmosphere even further, Julz revealed they haven’t exchanged words with Dylan for over a year. They mentioned that despite undergoing top surgery, Dylan never got in touch with them, nor did he extend birthday wishes. Moreover, Julz responded to a fan’s comment about Dylan’s partner, suggesting that while public goodwill is appreciated, their personal connection with the actor is distant and fraught.
In response to a comment about someone supporting their sibling, while maintaining a relationship with someone else, I, as a dedicated follower, felt compelled to share my insights based on what I’ve gathered from Dylan O’Brien fans. It seems that his girlfriend is allegedly homophobic and racist, and there are other potential concerns yet unknown.
He hasn’t contacted me for more than a year. He didn’t reach out when I had my top surgery, nor did he send birthday greetings last week. Yet, I’m content that I could help enhance his journey in life and make the world appreciate him even more.
Dylan O’Brien is preparing for the premiere of Ponyboi, a movie that tackles sensitive themes like queer and intersex identities. In this film, O’Brien plays Vinny, a character who secretly carries on a sensual relationship with Ponyboi while also dating someone else who is pregnant. This is causing some debate due to recent allegations against him.
In this movie, we find Murray Bartlett and Indya Moore as part of the main ensemble. While the film has earned praise for its portrayal of diverse groups, a family dispute involving one of the actors has sparked debates about the genuineness and responsibility in his support for underrepresented communities.
