Reports indicate that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing not one but two separate projects within the DC Universe featuring the Teen Titans. One of these projects will be a live-action adaptation, while the other promises something fresh for the Teen Titans Go! animated series.
De Luca Hints at Live-Action Teen Titans and New Animated Project
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been keeping an ear out for interesting industry insights, and that’s exactly what Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, the heads of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, served up on the Smartless podcast. Hosted by the hilarious trio of Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, this conversation was a must-listen for anyone who loves movies as much as I do.
During their conversation about Warner Animation Group, Arnett mentioned that he played Slade in the film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which he considers to be a well-made movie.
Mike De Luca chimed in:
From what I hear, James and Peter might be working on both a live-action Teen Titans and a new Teen Titans Go! series.
Abdy and DeLuca also had good things to say about Gunn and his Superman movie.
Teen Titans Go! Still Going Strong
It was previously speculated that a Teen Titans project would join the DC Universe, but it seems we now have confirmation that something fresh is brewing for “Teen Titans Go!”, a much-loved animated show that debuted on Cartoon Network in 2013. The series offers 11-minute stories per episode, although they were later divided into 15-minute segments. After eight seasons, the ninth season is anticipated for 2025 (previously, clips from WB used to reach us, garnering millions of views on our YouTube channel).
Back in 2018, the “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies” animation hit the big screen. Interestingly enough, it grossed more than $52 million while its production cost was roughly around $10 million. With such success, it’s not unlikely that Gunn and Safran might be planning a sequel.
Past Live-Action Titans Series Ran for Four Seasons
For four seasons spanning 2018 to 2023, the live-action Titans series unfolded, producing a total of 49 episodes. This series showcased characters such as Dick Grayson (portrayed by Brenton Thwaites), Kory Anders (Anna Diop), Rachel Roth (Teagan Croft), Gar Logan (Ryan Potter), Jason Todd (Curran Walters), Donna Troy (Conor Leslie), Hank Hall (Alan Ritchson), Dawn Granger (Minka Kelly), Rose Wilson (Chelsea Zhang), Conner Kent (Joshua Orpin), and Tim Drake (Jay Lycurgo).
Since Gunn and Safran have revamped the DC Universe, it’s fair to assume that the upcoming live-action Teen Titans series will be a fresh start.
