Tech influencer Lamarr Wilson died by suicide on November 21st at the age of 48. His family confirmed his death on December 13th, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially determined the cause of death.
Wilson is popular online for his technology reviews and has built a large following, including over a million people on TikTok.
LaMarr Wilson, known online as the “unboxing guy,” was popular for his videos about technology, gaming, and entertainment. His family announced his passing on Facebook, sharing that he was passionate about creating content for YouTube, Google, and all his social media channels.
Before moving to Los Angeles, Wilson taught technology skills to teachers and students in Chicago and Milwaukee public schools. He then moved to Los Angeles to grow his career as a tech expert. His family remembers him as the person they always turned to for help, and he was actively working on several projects with companies in the tech and media industries.
I’ve been following Wilson since he started his YouTube channel way back in 2008! It’s been awesome to see how he’s evolved, especially when he started making shorter videos in 2021. I remember seeing him on George Takei’s series, Takei’s Take, back in 2013 – that was cool! He even spoke on a panel about content that appeals to different generations at VidCon 2025. One thing I really love about what he says is this: he always reminds us that you shouldn’t worry about what anyone else is doing. He says, ‘No one can do what you do the way you do it. It’s as simple as that. You’re in competition with yourself and your last piece of content…’ and that really resonates with me.
Beyond his online projects, Wilson partnered with leading companies like Xbox, Apple, and Nintendo. He’s also scheduled to be a judge for the CES Innovation Awards in January 2026.
Lamarr Wilson’s fans shared touching tributes on Instagram and TikTok after his death. One person wrote, “We’re heartbroken by the loss of Lamarr Wilson. He always knew how to make me smile, even when I was going through tough times. He was a huge part of my childhood – so funny and kind. We hope he’s found peace, and we’ll always love him.”
In November, Wilson shared a guide to tech gifts for the holidays on social media. In October, he posted about turning 48, celebrating a 48-pound weight loss and sharing what he’d learned about health and self-discipline.
As a huge fan, I was really saddened to hear about Lamarr Wilson’s passing. He wasn’t just a tech influencer; he genuinely inspired so many of us and took the time to teach and mentor people in the community. His family said they were heartbroken, and honestly, it’s a feeling a lot of us who followed his work share – he was truly loved and respected.
