Disney has officially cast Teagan Croft (Titans) as Rapunzel in its upcoming live-action Tangled.
The actress will star as Rapunzel, the princess famous for her long, golden hair and kept locked in a tower. She’s taking on the role that Mandy Moore originally voiced in the 2010 animated movie.

Scarlett Johansson Exits as Gothel
Scarlett Johansson was previously considered for the part of Mother Gothel, but she’s no longer involved in the film. The role of the story’s villain is still open.

Direction and Production
Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, will direct the new film. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has written a first draft of the script. Kristin Burr will produce the movie through her company, Burr! Productions, and Lucy Kitada will serve as executive producer.
The story’s specifics are currently being kept secret. Disney temporarily stopped working on the film after the Rachel Zegler-led Snow White received a poor reception in early 2025, but production started up again last autumn.
Disney appears to be focusing on familiar approaches rather than trying to update the story for contemporary viewers.

The Original Tangled
Disney’s animated film Tangled was a huge success, earning over $590 million globally and receiving an Academy Award nomination for its song, “I See the Light.” It played a key role in revitalizing Disney’s series of princess movies. Nathan Greno and Byron Howard directed the film, and Alan Menken composed the music with lyrics by Glenn Slater.
Croft and Manheim are heading up the project once more, and this time it’s expected to be a more straightforward, live-action adaptation, following criticism of Disney’s previous casting and creative decisions.
