As a seasoned roadie who’s been fortunate enough to live Taylor Swift’s musical journey for over 15 years, I’ve seen more stadiums, cities, and cultures than most globetrotters could ever dream of. From Tokyo’s snow-capped streets to the steaks in Rio, every corner of this planet has become a part of my life’s soundtrack, thanks to our fearless leader.
After more than fifteen years as Taylor Swift’s bassist, Amos Heller has penned a heartfelt goodbye to the Eras Tour, which wrapped up on December 8 in Vancouver. This groundbreaking tour, encompassing five continents, 152 performances, and numerous cities, symbolized the end of an era for the artist.
On Instagram, Heller posted an emotional note looking back at his journey. He wrote, “My travels have come to an end. No more waking up for early meetings. No more airport visits. No more dragging my luggage… No more bouts of jet lag. It’s over,” he expressed.
Heller, who’s been integral to Swift’s band since her initial career days, gave fans an uncommon sneak peek into the everyday life of a touring artist. He additionally shared impactful photos, such as one depicting Swift reclining on his shoulder during the Fearless phase of the performance.
In his communication, Heller outlined the pleasures and hardships of traveling for work. He mentioned not having to adapt to different languages, cultures, foods, climates, or unique attractions such as snow in Tokyo, watch factories in Switzerland, museums in Sweden, bass shops in Australia, steak houses in Rio, tattoo studios in Ireland. However, he emphasized that, despite the demanding routine, stepping into the stadium every evening made him feel akin to a gladiator.
Notable experiences involved touring bass stores in Australia, acquiring tattoos in Ireland, and delving into a Swiss watch factory. As Heller pointed out, these encounters were integral components of the distinctive pulse of nomadic existence, a feeling he will dearly remember.
As an ardent Swiftie, I can’t help but express my gratitude for being included in this remarkable community, sharing the journey with none other than Taylor Swift herself. Your admiration and respect are palpable, echoing throughout the entire fan base. It’s a privilege to have been entrusted with even a small piece of your vision. Riding this wave has been an unforgettable experience!
Apart from that, he too reminisced about the concluding evening, recounting the moment when he knelt down backstage following the final curtain call, musing over his journey. He confessed it was much like graduation, expressing how the tour had profoundly impacted him, both as a musician and an individual.
The Eras Tour turned out to be the record-breaking concert tour of all time, raking in over $2 billion in ticket sales. As per recent accounts, Taylor Swift dished out a whopping $197 million as bonuses for her entire team, encompassing dancers, band members, caterers, truck drivers, and others involved in the production.
