Taylor Swift was a strong contender to headline the halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl, and many expected her to perform alongside Adele. However, Bad Bunny was ultimately chosen for the Super Bowl LVI performance. Despite strong indications she would participate, Swift decided not to, and she confirmed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that footage of a previous performance wasn’t a factor in her decision. The 35-year-old was clear in her response, simply stating “No.” She also clarified that her fiancé, Travis Kelce, didn’t influence her choice.
Taylor Swift explained to Jimmy Fallon why she didn’t perform at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. She shared that Jay-Z and her team have a good working relationship and often check in about potential opportunities. However, it’s never a formal offer, just a casual conversation. She told him she was busy supporting her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who was playing in the game, and he understood.
She described the game as a kind of ‘violent chess’ and explained that having her fiancé playing would likely be a major distraction, hindering her ability to perform at her best. She worried she’d be too focused on his safety and performance to concentrate on her own work, imagining herself preoccupied with his well-being instead of her routine. Essentially, she wouldn’t be able to fully focus on her job if he were playing, and she playfully suggested this was a unique way to express how much she cares for him.
Taylor Swift clarified that her decision wasn’t about Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs player. She explained, “He’d be thrilled if I took the opportunity, I’m simply too busy right now.”
Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 8, 2026, with a halftime show featuring Bad Bunny.
