As a seasoned observer of the ever-evolving landscape of pop culture and celebrity feuds, I must say that the saga between Taylor Swift and Kanye West is one for the history books. It’s like watching a rollercoaster ride with twists, turns, and unexpected surprises at every bend.
Look what you made her do, Ye!
The ongoing conflict between Taylor Swift and Kanye West doesn’t appear to be resolving soon, as they continue to exchange barbs in their music.
On August 15th (Thursday), Taylor Swift rebranded and rereleased a revised edition of her song thanK you aIMee, originally spelling ‘KIM’ in capital letters, on an updated digital version of the album The Tortured Poets Department. This time around, it appears that Swift is directing her lyrics towards Kanye West, her former partner of Kim Kardashian.
In the track mentioned earlier from Taylor Swift’s latest version of TTPD, she capitalizes the words “thank you aimEe”, which seems to be a nod to Kanye West, now known as Ye. This song is a live performance by Taylor that she did at her Eras Tour show in Wembley in July. She blended this song with Mean, another track from her album Speak Now, which discusses a bully, in the same show.
Swift’s action follows close on the heels of the Text founder mentioning her and her NFL champion boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in his latest album, Vultures 2. In one of his songs, Lifestyle (Demo), he raps, “I roll my Taylor joints tightly at the end like Travis Kelce,” a line that alludes to Kelce’s position on his team.
Fans of Taylor Swift (Swifties) were thrilled when her subtle jab towards Kanye West during a song on her album Lover seemed to pay off. This was because they had worked together to prevent Kanye’s latest project from reaching the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Earlier in the week, Taylor Swift made history by surpassing Kanye West’s record of having 11 consecutive No. 1 albums on that particular music chart. Her album “Taylor’s Version of Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” has been at the top for an impressive 14 weeks since its release in April.
The longstanding dispute between Swift and Ye (Kanye West) can be traced back to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where the rapper interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video to express his belief that Beyoncé should have won the award instead.
After the occurrence, it appeared as though the pair had reconciled, but their disagreement was rekindled when West mentioned Swift in his 2016 track “Famous.” In this song, he sang, “I think me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.” During this conflict, Kim, his wife at the time, stood by him.
