SZA Gracefully Dodges Keke Palmer and Issa Rae’s Questions About Drake’s Kissing Skills: ‘F**k Y’all’

SZA typically avoids discussing her past relationships, and this is even more true for one that happened over a decade ago. Recently, on Hot Ones, SZA, alongside Keke Palmer and Issa Rae, were playfully quizzed about SZA’s 2009 romance with Drake. Remaining composed, SZA chose not to bring up her former boyfriend in the gossip circle.

In the buddy comedy “One of Them Days,” SZA, Palmer, and Rae participated in a lively round of ‘Truth or Dare with Deadly Consequences.’ The game quickly turned heated.

In a recent conversation, Palmer, aged 31, questioned SZA, aged 35, regarding her romantic relationship with the rapper known as God’s Plan. He asked if he was a skilled kisser to which SZA responded evasively, making it clear that she had no intention of discussing the matter further by saying “That’s why I said ‘F– you’ in advance.

Later, Palmer and Rae decided to quiz SZA more thoroughly, leaving her uncomfortable since she knew that having to consume a spicy wing was her penalty for refusing to share intimate details about her love life with her friends at the age of 19.

She expressed that she didn’t feel like doing something because it was painful for her, emphasizing that they were just kids at the time, and the event in question occurred in 2009.

Palmer gave it another try, posing the question to SZA as straightforwardly as possible: “It’s either a yes or no.” Rae agreed with the actress and pointed out, “The fact that you aren’t answering suggests quite a bit.

Are you all trying to make me feel guilty because you know it will work? I don’t appreciate that. Let’s move on.” Then, she took a small bite of the wing and chose not to comment further.

In his 2020 song “Mr. Right Now”, Drake mentioned SZA, whom he dated in 2008. He rapped that a girl he was currently seeing wanted to listen to SZA during an intimate moment. “I used to date SZA back in ’08/ If you’re okay with it, she can still play,” he sang.

A while afterwards, SZA acknowledged on X platform that there indeed was a romantic encounter, though it transpired a year following Drake’s mention in the song.

She explained that it was indeed the year 2009, and in this context, the choice of a poetic rap license made a difference. Laughing, she added that she probably just rhymed ’08’ with ‘wait’ unintentionally. Anyone familiar with her during that time can vouch for this fact, as it was all about love and peace.

In December 2022, SZA shared some insights about her relationship with her ex during an interview with Audacy. She mentioned that they maintain a friendly rapport and have done so all along. The artist acknowledged Drake’s consistent positive portrayal of her in his conversations, while also expressing her high regard for him as well.

In September 2023, they teamed up to create a song titled “Slime You Out” which was their own composition. Additionally, in April 2024, she received another shout-out from the rapper on his diss track called “Push Ups.” On this track, he praised her, along with Travis Scott and 21 Savage, for surpassing Kendrick Lamar as artists.
