Sydney Sweeney’s Has a Perfect Take on the James Bond Girl Rumors

Sydney Sweeney is currently promoting her latest movie, Christy, in which she portrays the renowned boxer Christy Martin.

The film tells the story of athlete Christy Martin, charting her success in the 1990s and her courageous recovery after a brutal attack by her husband in 2010. Directed by David Michôd, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes, Christy debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5th and will be released in theaters on November 7th by Black Bear Pictures.

Sydney Sweeney recently discussed rumors about potentially becoming a Bond girl in an interview with Variety. The speculation is fueled by her ties to Amazon, the company that now owns the James Bond franchise. She also has a professional relationship with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – she’s partnered with him on a new lingerie line and was a guest at his wedding in June.

So, I had to ask Anya Taylor-Joy about all the James Bond speculation, and her answer was pretty great. She played coy, but was genuinely honest. She admitted she wasn’t really in the loop with all the rumors—after a beat, and then another longer one—but said she’s a lifelong Bond fan and is really eager to see where they take the series next. It was a fun, self-aware response, and she didn’t try to deny anything, which I appreciated.

Sweeney admitted her decision to join the franchise would depend on the quality of the script. She jokingly added that she’d actually prefer to play James Bond instead.

The next James Bond film, currently known as Bond 26, will star a new actor in the iconic role, as Daniel Craig has finished his time playing 007 after the movie No Time to Die.

This movie will be the first James Bond film made under Amazon’s direction. They’ve hired director Denis Villeneuve, who is currently completing his Dune trilogy, to take the helm. Villeneuve shared that he has fond childhood memories of watching Bond films with his father, starting with Dr. No starring Sean Connery, and considers James Bond a deeply cherished character.

He stated that taking on the project is a significant responsibility, but he’s also very excited and honored. He, along with Amy Pascal and David Heyman, are eager to bring the character back to the big screen, and they appreciate the confidence Amazon MGM Studios has shown in them. Villeneuve will start working on the next Bond film after he completes Dune: Part Three, which is currently slated for release on December 18, 2026.

Sydney Sweeney’s fun response to talk about her potentially being the next Bond, combined with Denis Villeneuve directing the upcoming film, has fans excited for what’s to come.
