Sydney Sweeney Stuns Fans Wearing Historic Gown Marilyn Monroe Once Wore

I’m loving Sydney Sweeney‘s style lately! She’s really been taking inspiration from classic Hollywood icons, and it’s showing on every red carpet she steps onto. I wasn’t surprised at all when she brought that vintage glamour to the Santa Barbara Film Festival. She was being honored with a Virtuosos Award, and her outfit was incredible! She wore a Ceil Chapman gown that reminded me instantly of Marilyn Monroe’s first LIFE magazine cover – it was almost a perfect match! Apparently, she found it at a vintage shop called Timeless Vixen, and it had the same off-the-shoulder design and even a round brooch just like the one Marilyn wore. It’s such a cool nod to a classic look!

The beautiful, cream-colored dress featured lots of gathered fabric to create a flattering, cinched waist – a style well-known from designer Ceil Chapman. Chapman was a favorite among Hollywood stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Jayne Mansfield in the 1940s and 50s.

By choosing this gown, Sydney Sweeney wasn’t just wearing a pretty dress; she was directly referencing the history of the film industry she’s now a part of. This isn’t the first time she’s taken style inspiration from Marilyn Monroe.

Recently, at the Los Angeles premiere of The Housemaid, she wore a white gown with feathers, which many people thought was a tribute to Monroe’s iconic scene over the subway grate in The Seven Year Itch.

Earlier this year, for a W Magazine cover, she even captured Monroe’s glamorous energy, posing with a diamond necklace and blonde curls that echoed the star’s most famous look.

Sydney Sweeney is having a remarkably successful year. Her recent psychological thriller, The Housemaid, released in late 2025, has become a global hit, earning over $350 million worldwide. The film, directed by Paul Feig, features Sweeney as a live-in maid who uncovers unsettling secrets about her employers, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Because of its popularity, a follow-up film, The Housemaid’s Secret, is already planned, and Sweeney will reprise her role.

Fans have a lot to look forward to from Sydney Sweeney! She’ll be in a boxing movie later this year, playing 1990s boxing champion Christy Martin – a role that meant a major physical makeover. She’s also returning for season three of the popular HBO show Euphoria, which premieres April 12th.
