Noah Centineo is being considered to star alongside Sydney Sweeney in Legendary’s upcoming live-action Gundam film. This addition would bring another well-known actor to the movie as the cast is being assembled.
Centineo previously collaborated with Legendary on Street Fighter, and they’re now hoping he’ll join them again for a major movie based on a popular robot-themed series. He’s also known for playing Atom Smasher in Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.
If the deal is finalized, Centineo will co-star with Sweeney in a film that will largely focus on the two of them. Industry insiders report that Sweeney is actively participating in the selection of her co-star, and the story is expected to have a similar feel to Romeo and Juliet, with the main characters falling for each other despite being on opposing sides of a war between planets.

Jim Mickle Directs and Writes the New Adaptation
Jim Mickle, the creator of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, is directing the upcoming Gundam movie. While it was announced four years ago that the film would be released on Netflix, it’s currently unclear if that plan is still in place.
Mickle not only wrote the screenplay for the new Gundam movie, but he’s also leading the creative direction, aiming for a realistic yet epic interpretation of the story.
The film remains untitled, but Legendary is positioning it as a major sci-fi tentpole.

A New Take on the Long-Running Mecha Franchise
Starting as an animated series in 1979, Gundam quickly became a hugely popular and important science fiction franchise in Japan. The story is set in the future, where people have begun living in space colonies due to overpopulation on Earth. Eventually, these colonies rebel and a war breaks out, fought with enormous, human-piloted robots called mechas.
The film’s story revolves around Sweeney’s character, and the main male character’s journey is closely connected to hers. Their relationship forms the heart of the struggle between Earth and its colonies.
