Sydney Sweeney is quickly becoming known as a daring actress, often choosing roles that push her both physically and emotionally.
Before becoming a professional stunt performer, she experienced the dangers of physical activity firsthand through a number of childhood accidents.
In a recent interview, the actress shared stories about childhood injuries she sustained while being active, which have left lasting marks. She recalled one particularly memorable incident from when she was ten years old, during a family trip involving water activities.
While trying a 360-degree spin on her wakeboard, she lost control, and the edge of the board hit her in the face.
The injury was serious; she suffered a deep cut near her eye that needed seventeen stitches. Years later, as she’s built her career, a faint scar still reminds her of that day.
She wasn’t just into extreme water sports; she also remembered getting seriously hurt while riding dirt bikes years ago.
During a ride, she tore her MCL, leaving another lasting injury to add to her history of physical challenges.
While filming the movie Eden in Australia, Kate Bosworth was bitten by an unknown insect. The bite developed into a noticeable scar – she likened it to a small crater – showing that even on set, she sometimes faces physical challenges.
Even though she’s faced difficult experiences in the past, Sweeney has learned to use fear to push herself forward, rather than hold her back. She says that when something scares her, she’s actually more likely to want to try it. This way of thinking is definitely showing up in her work now, as she’s choosing projects that are more challenging and involve a lot of physical change.
The actress is currently gaining attention for her portrayal of boxer Christy Martin in the new movie, Christy. To accurately play the 1990s sports star, she transformed her physique and performed all her own boxing stunts. The film tells the story of Martin’s journey to success and her personal challenges, revealing a more intense and raw performance from the actress than fans are used to.
Outside of boxing, she’s had a successful year with the release of the thriller The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig. She plays Millie Calloway in the film, which is based on a popular novel and also stars Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. The Housemaid has done very well in theaters, and a sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, is already planned to start filming later this year.
Fans are excited to see Sydney Sweeney return as Cassie Howard in the third season of the popular HBO show Euphoria. After some setbacks, production is now underway, and the show promises to explore the complex issues that made it so impactful. She’s also joining a star-studded cast – including Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Vanessa Kirby – in the upcoming thriller Eden, directed by Ron Howard.
Both in her rigorous fight training and demanding acting roles, it’s evident that experiences from her past have fueled her intense work ethic. She consistently demonstrates a willingness to push herself to the limit, viewing every hardship as a testament to her commitment.
