Sydney Sweeney Defies Haters as She Obliterates Box Office with the Latest Psychological Thriller

Sydney Sweeney’s new movie, The Housemaid, is a big success! The psychological thriller, starring Amanda Seyfried alongside Sweeney, has earned over $100 million globally, according to Lionsgate.

The film performed very well internationally during its second weekend, bringing in $27.4 million – a 48% increase from its debut.

The film has now earned $57.3 million internationally, bringing its total across 63 countries to that amount. Domestically, in the U.S., it has grossed $75.7 million. This gives the film a worldwide total of $133 million, and it’s currently expected to reach between $210 million and $260 million globally. The production cost was $35 million, and this doesn’t include marketing expenses.

Lionsgate has a huge hit on its hands with “The Housemaid,” the horror movie based on the popular book and starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The film has now earned over $100 million worldwide. It had an incredible second weekend overseas, bringing in $27.4 million – a 48.1% increase from its opening weekend, for a total of $57.3 million internationally.

Directed by Paul Feig and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, The Housemaid is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel. The film centers on a young woman with a difficult history, played by Sweeney, who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for a rich family – portrayed by Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Initially appearing idyllic, the household’s facade begins to crumble as she uncovers the family’s hidden secrets.

The movie first premiered in New York City on December 2nd, and then opened nationwide in U.S. theaters on December 19th. Reviewers have given it positive feedback, highlighting its surprising plot, thrilling suspense, and strong acting, particularly from Amanda Seyfried.

When “The Housemaid” was released in North America, it competed with popular films like “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” and “David.” Experts predicted it would earn between $20 and $25 million from its opening weekend in 3,015 theaters. While it earned $8 million on its first day – including $2.3 million from previews the night before – it ultimately debuted with $19 million, placing third behind “Fire and Ash” and “David.”
