Switch 2 Power Impresses ‘Civilization VII’ Devs: “Like a Mid-Tier PC”

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is generating quite a buzz, and now the developers behind Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, specifically Firaxis, have voiced their thoughts. They are currently developing a unique edition of Civilization VII tailored for the Nintendo Switch 2.

During a conversation with Stephen Totilo from Game File, the game’s executive producer, Dennis Shirk, expressed that the graphics on the latest console are exceptionally high-quality.

The device has sufficient power to give off a mid-range PC vibe, and the team is thrilled about its capabilities: “It’s powerful enough… it left the team feeling very satisfied.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled about Civilization VII on the Switch 2! What makes this exciting isn’t just the improved visuals, but the enhanced gameplay too. Firaxis has confirmed that we can now use the Joy-Con 2 like a mouse, making it feel almost identical to playing on a PC. This means pointing and clicking will be as easy as ever, which not only simplifies the gameplay but also makes it more enjoyable overall.

The latest report arrives following Nvidia’s announcement that the new chip for the Switch 2 boasts a graphics performance “10 times greater” than the initial Switch model, as per their statement. Additionally, Digital Foundry has discussed the potential power of the upgraded Switch 2.

On the 5th of June, 2025 – the very same day as the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 – Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will be made available. If you’ve previously owned the game for the first Nintendo Switch, you’ll have an opportunity to upgrade and experience all its new features on the Nintendo Switch 2.
