Switch 2 Game File Sizes Revealed — Some Third-Party Titles Take Up Big Space

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to boast enhanced graphics and larger game options, but this advancement comes with a trade-off: the games will require more storage space. Recently, we’ve uncovered some insights regarding the potential sizes of these games – and some of them are quite substantial!

According to a report from Necro Felipe of Universo Nintendo, as reported by GoNintendo, we now have an idea of the approximate storage requirements for several upcoming third-party games for the Switch 2. Here’s a breakdown of the potential space these games could occupy:

1. Resident Evil Re:Verse – Approximately 6.7 GB
2. Monster Hunter Rise – Around 9.3 GB
3. Metroid Dread – Estimated at 12.4 GB
4. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope – Approximately 8.5 GB
5. Just Dance 2022 – Approximately 16 GB
6. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl – Each game is expected to take up around 8 GB of storage space.

  • Fortnite – 29.5 GB
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition – 56.8 GB
  • HITMAN World of Assassination Signature Edition – 61 GB
  • Split Fiction – 71 GB
  • Street Fighter 6 – 48.8 GB

The dimensions of these files are significantly bigger compared to those typically found on the standard Nintendo Switch. This is partly due to an increasing level of detail and complexity in many third-party games, which results in larger file sizes.

Conversely, it’s anticipated that Nintendo’s own games will remain compact. For instance, one such game, Donkey Kong Bananza, is estimated to be around 10 GB in size. This is relatively small when compared to the sizes of third-party games.

Among the initial games released by Nintendo, it appears that Mario Kart World is the largest in size, requiring approximately 23.4 GB of storage. This is significantly less compared to titles such as Split Fiction, which may require more than 70 GB.

Rest assured, there’s plenty of room for your gaming adventures on the upcoming Switch 2 model. It boasts an ample 256GB of built-in memory. While that’s sufficient for many games, larger titles might consume it rather swiftly.

I’m thrilled to share that Nintendo is giving us the flexibility to increase our storage capacity with a Micro SD Express card! This is fantastic news since it allows me to purchase extra space whenever I need it, especially when I’m looking forward to downloading numerous big-sized games.
