Swift’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ Is Getting a New, Modernized Adaptation for TV

In an exciting development, the classic tale penned by Jonathan Swift, titled “Gulliver’s Travels,” is being given a modern twist for television in a six-episode series named “The Gullivers“. This innovative reimagining is masterminded by Emmy and BAFTA-winning writer Tom Bidwell, recognized for “Watership Down”. The project is a joint venture between Moonriver TV and Federation Studios, with producers Xavier Marchand, Casey Herbert, and Leo Becker spearheading the production.

The upcoming fantasy journey is currently in production for a significant European television network. Not too long ago, Moonriver was responsible for creating “Nautilus”, a series that drew inspiration from Jules Verne’s novel, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.

The show is available for streaming in numerous nations, with its U.S. premiere yet to come. Federation Studios has also made Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days” appear on-screen, demonstrating their talent for transforming timeless literature.

In a contemporary twist, Jonathan Swift’s classic Gulliver’s Travels is reimagined in Bidwell’s adaptation, centering around Lemuel Gulliver’s family. The narrative unfolds as his spouse and offspring undertake a perilous voyage, traveling together.

Bidwell expressed that very few fictional works have influenced both storytelling and culture as significantly as Swift’s timeless work. He’s had a desire for quite some time to bring it to life in an adaptation, but found it intimidating. However, the experience gained from working on Moonriver and Federation boosted his confidence enough to take on this challenging project.

As per Marchand, “The Gullivers” promises an abundance of action, imaginative landscapes, and exhilarating escapades to captivate audiences across all age groups. Becker further emphasized that this adaptation offers a chance to reacquaint modern-day readers with Swift’s tale, presenting it in a contemporary light that resonates profoundly in today’s world.

This series unites the artistic prowess of Moonriver and Federation Studios, famous for their work on novels such as “A Gentleman in Moscow”, “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”, and “The Bureau”. Bidwell’s distinctive vision, coupled with their combined expertise, is set to bring a daring new take on this cherished story.
