The trial for Yunice Abbas, one of the alleged perpetrators from the 2016 Kim Kardashian armed robbery, starts on April 28 in Paris. Abbas has openly admitted his part in the incident and intends to express remorse during the court proceedings. He is among a group of 10 defendants being charged, with offenses that include armed robbery and kidnapping.
Abbas admitted to The Associated Press that he will express his sincere apologies. This admission comes ahead of his scheduled testimony, which is set to continue until May 23rd.”
Simultaneously, Kim Kardashian is anticipated to appear in person during the trial, sharing her harrowing account of being held at gunpoint by robbers who made off with millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry during Paris Fashion Week.
In January 2017, Yunice Abbas was taken into custody. During a robbery, he served as a watchman. He made sure the exit route was safe on the ground floor, but he didn’t carry any weapons and never directly menaced Kardashian, according to Billboard. Nevertheless, Abbas admits that he played a part in the crime. After serving a 21-month sentence, Abbas was released under judicial supervision.
In her statement to authorities, Kardashian narrated the terrifying incident where two individuals forcefully entered her home, brandishing a firearm, and demanded her expensive engagement ring valued in the millions.
During the robbery, the thieves bound her with plastic restraints and adhesive tape as they looked for valuables. In an emotional interview on David Letterman’s Netflix program in 2020, Kardashian expressed her fear: “I honestly thought I was going to be sexually assaulted,” she said. “I kept wondering, ‘What’s happening? Are we going to make it out alive?’
In the daring theft, a collection of jewelry valued at approximately USD 6 million was taken from me, unbeknownst to me that it belonged to the renowned socialite, Kim Kardashian. It wasn’t until the following morning, when I saw her name mentioned on the news as an influential figure, that the pieces’ true owner became clear to me.
After the jewelry store heist, Abbas hastily departed on a bicycle, clutching a sack full of stolen gems. As he pedaled off, the bag got snarled in his front wheel, causing him to stumble and drop the jewels. Eventually, a bystander discovered a diamond-studded cross from the robbery and reported it to the authorities. To this day, that cross remains the only item found related to the crime.
Although many suspects claim innocence, Abbas and another individual, whose DNA was discovered at the crime scene, have admitted to their parts in the incident. Abbas, who jointly wrote a book called “I Held Kim Kardashian Hostage,” has expressed his desire to share his perspective of the events, feeling that previous accounts were exaggerated.
The income Abbas receives from his book is being held back until the court decision is made. Michael Rhodes, attorney for Kardashian, expressed his desire for the trial to move forward following French legal procedures, ensuring fairness for everyone involved.
