Surprisingly, Thanos Does not Hold the Highest Kill Count in the MCU

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with decades worth of experiences under my belt, I must say that the discussion about the deadliest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has taken an intriguing turn. While Thanos‘ infamous snap left quite an impression on me, it seems that there are others who have wielded power on a scale far beyond what we initially thought.

Lately, our discussion centered around Iron Man’s death toll, a figure that appears to be the highest among the Avengers within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, even Iron Man’s substantial count seems insignificant when compared to Thanos’ snap, an event that erased half of all life across the universe.

Although this mind-boggling figure may seem hard to fathom, it’s shocking to discover that it isn’t the greatest death toll in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And no, we’re not referring to the fact that the Snap was ultimately undone; Thanos’ tally doesn’t even approach the leading total.

In simpler terms, Thanos’ snap eliminated half of all existence across the universe, affecting virtually every kind of life. Now, imagine if you could erase everything in not just one universe but multiple ones. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has expanded beyond ‘Endgame’ and the Multiversal Saga introduction with the idea of a Multiverse. Characters like Kang the Conqueror and his variations have been shown to disrupt various timelines and different realities within this Multiverse.

31st-century researcher Victor Timely uncovered the existence of the Multiverse and encouraged dialogues among different iterations of himself, resulting in a short spell of harmony and information sharing. He additionally designed an AI named Miss Minutes, which he never gave a tangible form. Regrettably, certain versions of him, including Kang the Conqueror, aspired to rule these alternate dimensions, sparking a Multiversal Conflict.

In the heat of the battle, Ravonna Renslayer, representing Timely, led her troops. Eventually, Timely managed to tap into the power of a cosmic entity called Alioth, which emerged from rips in space-time. With this formidable force, he eliminated his other selves and concluded the war. He then adopted the name He Who Remains and established the TVA (Temporal Variance Authority) to tightly regulate the Multiverse.

To ensure harmony among the different variants, He Who Remains opted to “end” any branches of time that might produce malevolent versions. He eradicated all timeframes that could trigger another Multiversal Conflict, thus making the Sacred Timeline the absolute reference point for the Multiverse.

An individual, referred to as “He Who Remains,” arranged several timelines according to a distinct sequence, which he designated as the “Sacred Timeline.” To maintain this pattern, he established rigorous regulations for all branches to adhere to, cutting off any that didn’t comply. Additionally, he developed the Temporal Loom, a device used to control and delete any timelines that deviated from the Sacred Timeline and weren’t corrected in time. This device served as a protective measure to uphold the Sacred Timeline’s consistency.

Although we can’t say for certain how many realities and universes were destroyed, it’s evident that He Who Remains wiped out an astronomical number. This surpasses even the most intricate mathematical reasoning into a realm that is scarcely imaginable by human minds, touching upon deep philosophical pondering instead.

The predicament worsens significantly as we ponder the possibilities that were annihilated. Although it may be debated whether death is more unfortunate than never being born, He Who Remains did not merely eliminate existing lifeforms; he also erased potential realities and destinies.

Instead of debating the moral implications of his deeds, it’s indisputable that among Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, those embodied by He Who Remains (and his versions) have proven to be significantly more destructive than Thanos.
