Superman’s Record-Breaking $21M+ Thursday Box Office: Highest of 2025

After waiting, we can now see the earnings from the “Superman” movie as the Thursday figures are released, and they’re soaring high!

On Tuesdays, Amazon showings brought in approximately $2.8M, while Superman previews are projected to generate over $21M on Thursdays.

In simpler terms, “Man of Steel” opened to a much larger amount than the initial box office earnings you mentioned, which was around $9 million without inflation adjustment (equivalent to approximately $12.42 million considering inflation). If we factor in inflation, Man of Steel’s opening was over $160.9 million.

I was initially quite surprised when I first heard the early predictions for Gunn’s flick reaching $175M, but as the release date approached and the preview box office numbers started pouring in, my expectations began to soar. Now, with the latest projections suggesting it will earn more than $130M, I can confidently say that this movie is shaping up to be a major success!

2025’s early screenings for the movie called “Superman” have set the bar high, surpassing both Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” ($14.5M on Thursday, $146M in three days) and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” ($12M on Thursday, $88.8M in three days) in terms of attendance.

The movie surpasses Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by Gunn (earning $17.5 million on its first day and $118.4 million in three days), setting a new benchmark for its director.

It’s yet to be determined if Superman has a strong following of dedicated fans, or if its appeal can sustain an audience throughout the weekend.

Moving forward, word-of-mouth will play a crucial role. So far, there’s been plenty of chatter about the Superman film. Whether it’s positive or negative, simply having people talk about the movie is advantageous. At this moment, it boasts a whopping 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from fans, making it the top-rated Superman film to date.

Concerning the discussion, some progressive feminists are criticizing director James Gunn over his portrayal of females in the movie. Meanwhile, under the leadership of ex-Superman actor Dean Cain, conservative supporters are criticizing the film for its wokeness.

Nerdrotic, Tim Pool, and I have shared that the portrayal of Superman by Gunn isn’t “woke”. While both Tim Pool and I appreciate the movie and rate it at 8 out of 10, Nerdrotic gave a more critical assessment in their review focusing on political themes.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: Deadline reports that the previews for the upcoming Superman movie are showing strong potential to outperform Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which earned an impressive $21.6M in 2022. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds!

To clarify, the film “Batman v Superman” in 2016 boasted the highest box office previews for any Superman movie, raking in $27.7M ($166M over three days). However, it’s important to note that this isn’t a standalone Superman film because it also features Batman and DC Comics’ most prominent character, Wonder Woman.

Feel free to check out my review right over there. I must say, I quite enjoyed the film. After watching it again, I even took the time to revise and update my initial thoughts on it.
