This upcoming week sees the release of “Superman”, and the forecasted box office earnings vary greatly, much like the mixed reactions and opinions surrounding it.
On Monday evening, there was a grand Red Carpet Premiere, which was then followed by early screenings on Amazon the next night, and I had the chance to watch it. You can find my review of it here. I quite enjoyed the film.

What are the opening box office estimates?
Through Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter (THR), it’s reported that Superman is projected to open anywhere between $100 million and $130 million. Initially, THR mentioned that the projection had reached $135 million at one stage, but has since been adjusted to $130 million. In June, initial predictions were as low as $90M.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that presales have already reached $20 million, surpassing the opening revenue of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($118.4M) at this stage.
However, the presales are lower than Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which opened to $106.1M.
In fact, this situation seems to indicate that presales might not have a significant impact, since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 managed to open more successfully despite having less pre-sale, suggesting that word-of-mouth could play a more prominent role.
Due to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being well-received, there was an increase in attendance during its opening weekend. Conversely, since Quantumania wasn’t very good, fewer people went to see it after reviews started coming out online.

So what does that mean for Superman?
As a dedicated fan, I can tell you that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” currently boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 86%, with its peak reaching 91%. Interestingly, “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” has a slightly lower score at 82%. For “Quantumania”, the score stands at 46%.
It’s important to note that when the Audience score becomes available, it will be filled with ratings and reviews from fans who attended early screenings. This means that the fan score is likely to lean more towards positive feedback initially.
Fans’ opinions will decide whether Superman succeeds or falters, as indicated by the intriguing responses seen online after its Amazon premiere. This aligns with our initial post suggesting that reactions from fans would range from adoration to dislike.
Superman officially opens July 11
On Wednesday, July 9th, Superman starts its worldwide showings. In the U.S., there will be special previews on July 10th for domestic audiences, and it will become widely available starting from Friday.
