Superman Sequel Reportedly Gets Fast-Tracked 2027 Release

It appears that the upcoming Superman film is rumored to have secured a launch date, with both Warner Bros. and DC Studios working diligently to expedite the sequel’s debut on either July 16, 2027 or potentially earlier on July 9, 2027.

The movie is anticipated to start production in the early months of the next year, coinciding with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” slated for release on October 1, 2027.

What does the rumor say?

The Superman sequel release date comes via EmpireCity Box Office on X:

Gunn Confirms Treatment Is Done

Recently, James Gunn announced that he has completed the outline, which he’s referring to as “The Superman Chronicles,” a series of movies planned to form the foundation for the upcoming DC Cinematic Universe.

“Gunn shared with Collider that the scheduling for filming is underway. He’s completed his treatment, which is far from a typical one – it’s a comprehensive 60-page document complete with dialogue. Currently, he’s converting this treatment into a script. The shooting will happen sooner than later,” (paraphrased version)

Gunn mentioned that plans for the next ‘Superman’ movie are already underway, and it won’t be too long before filming begins.

According to Gunn, he has completed the preliminary script for the next installment of what he refers to as the ‘Superman Saga’. The script is fully developed at this point, and he’s currently working on it, aiming to move into production on that project soon, not too long from now.

The “Superman Saga”

The upcoming film will serve as the second part of what director Gunn refers to as the “Superman Series,” but it should be noted that this is not a direct continuation of the “Superman 2” movie.

“In regards to Superman, he plays a significant part. However, it’s important to clarify that it’s not ‘Superman 2.'” Gunn further explained, “When you consider what constitutes a ‘direct sequel,’ I view Peacemaker Season 2 as such.”

Box Office Update

This week, the movie is expected to surpass the $600 million milestone, however, it’s currently lagging behind films like Matt Reeves’ The Batman ($772 million) and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel ($670 million, without inflation adjustment).

What’s Next for DCU

The Superman sequel isn’t the only major project on the horizon.
