As a longtime fan who has witnessed the highs and lows of Superman’s adventures over the years, I must say that the introduction of Brainiac in “Superman & Lois” Season 4 has left me utterly thrilled. The creators have always been adept at giving us fresh takes on classic DC characters, and this version of Brainiac promises to be no exception.
The TV series “Superman & Lois” resumed its run this week, delivering a powerful, two-hour episode that continued from where Season 3 ended. Superman found himself engaged in a fierce, planet-threatening fight with Doomsday, the monster created by Lex Luthor.
Then, the unthinkable happened—something the actors and producers had been teasing since the first promos for Season 4: Superman died.
For a full day and night, the intense struggle ensued between Superman and Doomsday. In an attempt to halt Doomsday using his heat vision, Superman was propelled across an entire planet by Doomsday’s retaliation.
After Doomsday’s departure from Earth, it was Smallville where Superman’s motionless form was left behind, in close proximity to Lois Lane and their sons. The situation became even more dire when they found that Superman’s heart had been taken, later offered as a gruesome token to Lex Luthor. In the end, Lex devised a unique container to keep the heart secure.
In the scene, Luthor is spotted with a metal-framed, see-through container, illuminated by light resembling ultraviolet, potentially designed to weaken the heart. He explains that its inventor, Milton, assured him it would function as intended. As Lex expresses admiration for the invention, Amanda McCoy advises him to be careful not to inflate “Milton’s” pride, likening him to Brainiac.
Despite whispers that Season 4 would unveil a significant antagonist, there were numerous theories surrounding the emergence of Brainiac. His delayed appearance in the series offers an exciting array of opportunities for the series finale.
Brent Fletcher, the executive producer, hinted that the portrayal of Brainiac in this new version will be unlike any previous ones.
When the chance arose to incorporate Milton into our narrative, his unique portrayal proved perfect for our needs. Since he’s an entirely new take on the character, it added an element of excitement. We enjoy crafting our own interpretations of stories, and this one turned out to be quite enjoyable in the end.

In his observations, Fletcher pointed out that the characterization of this particular villain will be custom-made for the series, as each narrative arc must conform to the compact 10-episode structure. Achieving this balance isn’t easy, especially with the reintroduction of Superman yet to be fully resolved.
