James Gunn’s Superman has earned the title as the top earner of the domestic summer box office, for now.
In the U.S., it’s currently the highest-grossing film of the season, earning approximately $351 million and surpassing both “Jurassic World: Dominion” and Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four”.

Superman Box Office Numbers
The latest numbers for Gunn’s Superman after 53 days in theaters are:
- Domestic (57.5%): $351,748,613
- International (42.5%): $259,700,000
- Worldwide: $611,448,613
Superman is leading domestically over Jurassic World: Rebirth, earning $338,265,615 compared to Jurassic World’s domestic figure, despite the fact that dinosaurs trumped Gunn globally with a staggering $855.5 million in worldwide sales.
Or simply, Superman is ahead of Jurassic World: Rebirth domestically, earning more money than it did globally.

Another Win Over Marvel
Additionally, Gunn can boast some superiority over Marvel since Superman outperformed the Fantastic Four in box office numbers. Notably, Fantastic Four accumulated a domestic total of $265 million, while only surpassing the $500 million mark globally this weekend.
This paraphrasing aims to provide clarity and readability by breaking down the information into simpler sentences while maintaining the original meaning.
In an unusual turn of events, DC Universe has managed to secure a win while Marvel and DC are finding it hard to recreate their earlier triumphs. This victory might hint at some changes on the horizon, if Gunn maintains his successful streak.
Gunn’s flick also smashes both Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World.

#3 Domestic Movie of 2025
As of 2025, Superman has taken the third spot among domestic box office earnings, surpassed only by Minecraft ($423,949,195) and Lilo & Stitch ($421,706,354).
Weak International Numbers
Despite the domestic success, the international audience didn’t show up in the same way.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder over the figures of blockbuster movies. In the case of Gunn’s latest masterpiece, it earned approximately $259.7M from overseas markets, which, to put it mildly, could have been more robust compared to other box office behemoths. If the foreign gross had been stronger, my dear Superman, you would have truly given tough competition on a global stage at the worldwide box office.
Still Short of The Batman and Man of Steel
Despite wearing the royal crown, Superman still pales in comparison to Matt Reeves’ The Batman or Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Superman wearing a crown doesn’t make him match up to either Matt Reeves’ The Batman or Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Or:
With the domestic crown on his head, Superman is no equal to Matt Reeves’ The Batman nor Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
- The Batman: $772,245,583 worldwide
- Man of Steel: $670,145,518 worldwide
According to predictions, Gunn’s version of Superman is expected to earn around $600 million domestically during the summer season. While this makes it a successful film in terms of domestic box office wins, it may not be sufficient to quieten comparisons with Reeves and Snyder.
The Gunn-directed Superman movie might earn around $600 million in the US during summer, making it a winner domestically. However, this success might not put an end to the comparisons drawn between it and films directed by Reeves and Snyder.
