This unique origin is what gives him extraordinary powers, making him a remarkable symbol of the genuine American spirit. As James Gunn, Superman’s creator, puts it, “Superman is the story of America – an immigrant who populated the country.” Furthermore, he emphasizes that this tale also communicates the importance of human kindness, a value that we sometimes forget in today’s world.

For Gunn, the tale of Superman signifies it’s both a global narrative and an American one revolving around an immigrant discovering his belonging. “It’s all about kindness,” Gunn emphasizes, “I’m sharing a story about an individual who stands out for his exceptional goodness.” A narrative, Gunn believes, is particularly relevant at this juncture, as he elaborates, “This Superman seems to materialize when people are experiencing a void in their faith in others’ kindness.
