It’s widely acknowledged that Nicholas Hoult delivers one of the best live-action portrayals of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman. However, many viewers might not realize that there are actually two actors playing Lex Luthor in this film. While Nicholas Hoult appears on screen, it’s Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor for seven seasons of Smallville, who lends his voice to one of Luthor’s henchmen. Specifically, during the scene where Eve Teschmacher is held captive in Lex’s pocket universe prison, it’s Rosenbaum’s voice that says, “Sending sexy selfies behind the back of Lex Luthor? She has to be the biggest idiot in the world.” (Comic Book revealed this interesting fact.)

Rosenbaum and director James Gunn have been friends for quite some time, with Gunn even asking him to voice the character Martinex in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Given this close relationship, it’s not surprising that he found a way to include him in “Superman” with a minor voice role. This is just another addition to Rosenbaum’s extensive list of roles within the DC Universe. Not only did he portray Lex Luthor on “Smallville,” but he also lent his voice to The Flash in “Justice League Unlimited.” Additionally, he voiced the younger Kid Flash and Deadman in “Teen Titans” and “The Brave and the Bold,” respectively. Now, he can add a live-action DC film role to this impressive roster.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Michael Rosenbaum mentioned that James Gunn asked him for a fun project, which he participated in by providing some voiceovers. They are good friends and Gunn is very loyal. Rosenbaum believes that Gunn has a fantastic vision and is putting a lot of effort into the project. Given the importance of the character, one might wonder when Gunn will give Rosenbaum a substantial on-screen role, rather than just voice work. With numerous DC Comics characters yet to appear in films, there are many potential roles for Rosenbaum such as live-action Deadman, Animal Man, or Kite-Man. Eventually, someone needs to play Kite-Man.
