Superman Director James Gunn Confirms Filming Done for Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor

Gunn expressed gratitude towards Hoult through his social media channels for the thoughtful gift – a vintage comic book, Superman #167. The comic’s cover, featuring Superman trapped between Brainiac and Lex Luthor, evokes the classic DC comics feel with its nostalgic aesthetic. In the storyline, the two villains join forces to strip Superman of his newfound powers, with Brainiac ultimately reducing him in size. The cover’s reminiscent charm takes us back to many iconic Superman comic book memories. With his current project completed, Hoult is now focusing on other creative endeavors.

Gunn reminded everyone that filming Superman was not finished, it was just Nicholas Hoult who had wrapped up his part. He expressed gratitude towards Hoult by jokingly commenting, “We’re not done shooting – only you, Nick, have wrapped!” Gunn was thrilled to have Hoult join the team for this legendary role.

Status on filming 

In Cleveland, Ohio, filming for Superman’s latest production has wrapped up. Due to the open set, many photos have emerged, making it challenging for Gunn to prevent major spoilers from leaking. He assured fans that there were still a few weeks left before entering post-production. The movie is expected to hit theaters around a year after its departure from Cleveland.

Gunn carefully planned and managed the filming process to keep the excitement alive for Superman fans, demonstrating his commitment to delivering a thrilling experience while maintaining an air of mystery.

Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Terence Rosemore, Wendell Pierce, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell (repeating her role as Martha Kent), and Christopher McDonald join the cast of Superman, with Mikaela Hoover portraying Cat Grant.

Superman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
