It’s reported that the earnings for James Gunn’s Superman surpassed those of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in the domestic box office, meaning the film is now more successful domestically.
The advocates are putting on a show, trying to persuade that Gunn’s Superman surpasses its actual quality, but as I mentioned earlier, James Gunn’s Superman falls short when compared to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
After a significant decline in its third weekend, it seems unlikely that James Gunn’s version of Superman will surpass Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel without adjusting for inflation.
It actually makes you wonder what the point of the DCU reboot was if it can’t do better, eh?

What’s going on?
Instead, they often like to contrast the figures – comparing the 2025 figures of ‘Superman’ with those from 2013 for ‘Man of Steel’.
However, as I said, you have to factor in inflation, as it’s been 12 years.
As a devoted Superman fan, I can’t help but notice that Gunn’s Superman has raked in approximately $292 million domestically, which is quite impressive. However, when I look back to 2013 and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, it had amassed an astounding $291,045,518 at the box office. It seems some are exaggerating a bit by calling this recent success a grand triumph, but both films have certainly left their mark on the Superman legacy.
As a cinephile looking back, I’ve got to say that the box office earnings of $291,045,518 for Man of Steel in today’s money would equate to approximately $402,992,540.82. Back then, movie tickets didn’t cost around $20, but rather a third of that amount. This just goes to illustrate the vast number of fans who flocked to see Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel compared to James Gunn’s Superman.
The movie titled Man of Steel earned approximately $524,916,079.36 in foreign markets, which is equivalent to more than half a billion dollars when adjusted for today’s value.
Gunn’s Superman has earned about $214 million worldwide, but it won’t surpass Man of Steel without accounting for inflation.
Similarly, it appears that Superman suffered a significant 57.5% decline in its third weekend. It’s shaping up that Superman won’t even touch Snyder’s Man of Steel, which ultimately grossed an astounding $670,145,518 globally. Accounting for inflation, this equates to almost a billion dollars — approximately $927,908,620.18.
Superman is currently at around $506.5M worldwide.
Zack Snyder wins.
