Springtime has barely begun, yet I find myself yearning for the arrival of summer. Although spring blockbusters like “Thunderbolts” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” are thrilling, my eyes are fixed on July 11th. That’s when James Gunn’s “Superman” is set to premiere, promising a fresh chapter in the enjoyable DC movie universe. Truly, hope is an apt description for all things related to Superman, considering he stands as a symbol of the goodness that can exist in the world. And let’s not forget, the appeal of him wearing his underwear on the outside of his pants!
In this backstage video from the Superman film, Gunn, Peter Safran, along with the principal actors, engage in a conversation about the filmmaking process, the weighty duty they perceive, and undeniably, the optimism the character embodies.
This small segment effectively builds anticipation for the movie, offering insights into Superman as a beacon of inspiration. Furthermore, it provides intriguing glimpses of characters we don’t often see, such as Frank Grillo portraying Rick Flag Sr, who was also in “Creature Commandos.” His appearance here bears a resemblance to his Brock Rumlow mercenary persona from the MCU. However, what truly captures our attention are fleeting glimpses of Isabela Merced dressed as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho.
Although the behind-the-scenes clip doesn’t reveal significantly new footage beyond what was already shown in the initial teaser and extended scene, it still feels exciting to witness the creation of such a grand production. It brings back memories of my childhood, when I used to be captivated by the making-of documentaries for films like Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Those bonus features were often more intriguing than the movie itself, and that’s not meant as a criticism of the film.
In my viewpoint, though I’m not entirely smitten with the Superman suit, it’s the sole reservation I harbor after witnessing all else. Just as Rachel Brosnahan puts it, faith in James Gunn is unwavering. Here’s hoping, Summer, for a fantastic outcome!
Superman will hit theaters and IMAX screens July 11, 2025.
