Does Supergirl Appear in Superman?

Indeed, Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl in DCU, does make an appearance in the movie titled Superman. Although Supergirl’s role isn’t extensive in this film, it’s certainly entertaining. Towards the end of the movie, after Lex Luthor is defeated and Superman’s robots are rebuilding the Fortress of Solitude, a crash can be heard from another room. Robot 4, or Gary as he’s known, announces, “Your cousin has returned.” In the background of the Fortress, we see Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, stumbling, slightly hungover, into the corridor and onto our Superman screens. She inquires about her dog, to which Krypto promptly flies over and playfully tackles her, causing her to giggle with glee.

As I watch the heartwarming scene unfold before me, it strikes me – there’s more to Krypto than meets the eye. It dawns on me why Superman always referred to him as “the dog” instead of “my dog.” He refers to his care for Krypto as a “foster situation,” hinting at their unique bond. The truth is, Krypto isn’t just Superman’s dog; he belongs to Supergirl.

Additionally, it becomes crystal clear that Krypto’s unruly behavior stems from the fact that his owner, Supergirl, doesn’t seem to care about training him. Instead, she seems to revel in his chaotic, untamed nature. It’s as if she finds joy in having a wild, unrefined companion by her side.

What’s Supergirl Up to in Superman and How Does it Set Up Her Movie?

Superman shares that his cousin enjoys visiting planets with red suns because it’s the only way she can become intoxicated. This ties in with “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” the comic from which her upcoming movie is derived. Kara and Krypto embark on this journey on another planet to help Kara get drunk for her 21st birthday celebration. It appears that she’s already older than that age in “Superman” comics, suggesting she has partaken in this activity multiple times.

Gary expresses concern to Superman about Kara’s excessive drinking habit, stating that if he could feel emotions, he would be worried. Afterward, Kara storms off to her room and angrily calls Clark a derogatory term. This sets the stage for Supergirl next season, as Kara learns accountability and carves out her own journey despite Superman’s presence. I’m eagerly anticipating it!

Superman is in theaters July 11.
