Supergirl Trailer Draws More Dislikes in 24 Hours Than Superman in Six Months

The first look at the new Supergirl series is getting a lot of negative feedback on YouTube. In just one day, the teaser trailer has received more dislikes than the Superman trailer has in over six months.

Honestly, I’m really disappointed with the new Supergirl trailer. A lot of fans, including me, are upset about how they’re showing Krypto – seriously, having him pee on Superman felt really unnecessary! Plus, people are saying it feels too much like Guardians of the Galaxy, and they completely changed the villain’s appearance. It just doesn’t feel right to many of us.

YouTube Numbers Tell a Different Story

Just one day after it came out, the Supergirl teaser video has around 29,000 dislikes with 9.5 million views. In comparison, the Superman trailer, which was released in May, has about 21,000 dislikes after being online for six months, and it has 36 million views.

If the current trend continues, Supergirl is likely to receive over 100,000 dislikes once it reaches a similar number of views.

While both videos have strong view counts, the engagement gap stands out.

Reaction From Fans

When the trailer for Supergirl was released, it quickly drew criticism online. Many viewers felt it copied the style of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy too much.

Many viewers felt the trailer didn’t offer anything new, pointing out similarities between Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El and the character Star-Lord. They noted her trenchcoat, use of a Walkman, and a generally sarcastic attitude, as highlighted by the tagline “Truth. Justice. Whatever.”

People on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit criticized the new portrayal, calling it pessimistic and saying it removed the optimism usually seen in the Supergirl character.

Some viewers didn’t like the film’s dark and subdued colors, finding them visually uninteresting and heavy. They also felt the overall mood was too different from the more vibrant feel of Woman of Tomorrow.

Initial numbers indicate that Supergirl is getting a quicker reaction than Superman did at this point, but unfortunately, it’s not a positive one.

Release info

Supergirl is set to release on June 26, 2026.

Since Superman isn’t doing as well as hoped in theaters, people are starting to wonder if Supergirl will succeed. James Gunn has also expressed a desire to create a really impressive Batman film, but it remains to be seen if he can deliver.
