Although fans won’t see a trailer for Supergirl during the Super Bowl, DC will repeat last year’s successful campaign with adorable puppies, this time promoting James Gunn’s Superman movie.
DC and Guide Dogs of America Team Up Again
Building on the success of last year’s partnership with the Puppy Bowl for the movie Superman, DC is working with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA|TLC) on a heartwarming campaign. The campaign will feature classic DC comic book characters alongside incredibly cute puppies who are real-life heroes.
Meet the DC-Inspired Super Puppies
This year’s campaign stars adorable golden-lab puppies, sponsored by DC, and named after iconic characters from the Superman universe: Clark, Lois, Kara, Krypto, and Lobo.
Training Future Service Dog Heroes
These adorable puppies are working with GDA|TLC on a year-long training program. They’ll become service dogs, helping people who are blind or have low vision, veterans dealing with PTSD or brain injuries, and children with autism. Some will also work in public places as facility dogs, providing support in those settings.
Jim Lee Praises the Real-World Heroism
DC and GDA|TLC have a unique chance to share an inspiring story, bringing together DC’s famous Super Heroes and the incredible work of GDA|TLC in training life-changing service dogs. According to Jim Lee, DC’s president and publisher, this partnership shows how comic book heroism can translate into real-world impact through the bravery and service of these extraordinary dogs. In a special move, GDA|TLC has allowed a litter sponsored by DC to be named after iconic characters: Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo.
Who’s Who in the DC Puppy Litter
Notably, this special litter breaks the usual GDA naming conventions, honoring DC icons instead:
- Krypto: Krypto the Superdog is where good dogs and great superheroes intersect.
- Clark Kent: Clark is the mild-mannered secret identity of Superman, an alien from the planet Krypton. He’s known for his strong morals, kind heart, and dedication to using his superhuman abilities for good.
- Lois Lane: Lois Lane is a tenacious journalist, known for her sharp intellect, strong will, and relentless pursuit of truth, often putting herself in danger to get a story.
- Kara Zor-El: Also known as Supergirl, Kara possesses all of Superman’s powers—from superhuman strength, speed, and invulnerability all the way down to his flight and enhanced senses—but is still learning to control these awesome abilities.
- Lobo: This intergalactic alien badass is known as the best bounty hunter in the universe. He has fought on the side of both the good guys and the bad, pretty much just drifting toward whoever pays him the most to get the job done.
From Puppy Pre-K to Superhero Sidekicks
The young dogs have finished their basic training and are now starting the next step, where they’ll be cared for and trained by dedicated volunteers.
These trainers will guide and prepare the dogs to become fully qualified service animals, helping people live more independent lives.
Real-World Impact and Everyday Heroes
As a total dog person and movie buff, I always get a kick out of seeing stories about service dogs. Tony Blevins, who heads up Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines, put it perfectly: ‘Puppy Go Home Day’ isn’t just cute – it’s where these pups really start becoming the incredible helpers they’re destined to be. He also said teaming up with DC adds a really positive vibe to the whole thing, and I agree! It’s a celebration of the amazing people who foster these dogs, give them so much love, and believe in the life-changing difference they’ll eventually make.

Deadline reports that there won’t be a trailer for Supergirl during the Super Bowl, which is typical, as Warner Bros. usually doesn’t advertise there.
