After our July report that Warner Bros. was expanding Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, a new source says significant reshoots are happening. This time, they’ll be including scenes with David Corenswet as Superman.
I’m hearing from Daniel Richtman, a pretty reliable source, that David Corenswet is joining the movie. It sounds like this might mean they’re changing things up with the story, which is exciting!

Superman Costume Pulled from Studio Tour
Rumors have been swirling, and fans recently noticed something that added to the excitement: the Superman costume previously on display at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is now gone. A new sign indicates it’s currently being used for filming.
While some fans thought it was for Man of Tomorrow, that doesn’t start filming until next spring.
The recent schedule aligns with talk of reshoots, making it very likely David Corenswet will be back as Superman, now for the Supergirl movie.

A Shift in Story?
Initially, the movie Supergirl was planned to take place completely in outer space. However, with David Corenswet joining the cast as Superman, the filmmakers might be changing the film’s structure. They could be adding scenes featuring Superman at the beginning and/or end to better tie Supergirl into the overall story of the DC Universe.
As we mentioned before, Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo, will have a bigger role in the movie. It now appears Warner Bros. is boosting the traditionally masculine elements in a film centered around a female superhero, which is what I predicted after attending Comic-Con.

Female-Led Comic Book Films Keep Failing
It’s easy to see why people are skeptical. Recent comic book movies starring female leads, like Madame Web, The Marvels, and Birds of Prey, haven’t performed well in theaters. These films struggled for various reasons – whether it was the story itself, how they were advertised, or the themes they presented – and haven’t had much success.
Like Superman, Supergirl could also struggle. After mixed reactions to Peacemaker Season 2 and politically charged content, James Gunn’s DC Universe needs a hit. This is especially true considering reports that Superman didn’t make a profit.

Warner Bros. Discovery: Unstable Future?
Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of DC Studios, may be up for sale, with Netflix and a combination of Paramount and Skydance reportedly interested in acquiring it.
It’s unclear how this will affect James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe, and the future of the franchise remains uncertain.
Perhaps Gunn is buffing Supergirl in hopes of a better box office.
