The comedy troupe Broken Lizard is gearing up for another adventure. They’re revisiting the characters that made them famous with Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers. Expect the usual – lots of maple syrup, questionable policing, and playful interactions with drivers – but this time, there will be some new additions to the team. Sakina Jaffrey, Jon Rudnitsky, and Lisa Gilroy have joined the cast of Super Troopers 3.
Deadline says Broken Lizard and Searchlight Pictures are adding Jaffrey (Red Sparrow), Rudnitsky (Saturday Night Live), and Gilroy (Twisted Metal) to the cast of Super Troopers 3. We don’t yet know what roles they’ll play, as the comedy group and studio haven’t shared any information about the movie. However, if you’re interested in speculating about the casting, we can certainly do that.
Gilroy hails from Canada. Our wonderful neighbors up north were prominently featured in 2018’s Super Troopers 2. Given that the movie’s title references Winter Soldiers and, well, other current global events, we anticipate Canada will again be central to the story. We’re bracing for a potential backlash from passionate Canadians defending their nation, relying on these troopers to maintain order.
The team behind Broken Lizard penned the screenplay for the newest movie in the series. Jay Chandrasekhar is set to direct. The hilarious core group – Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske – are back as the wildly unprofessional, yet surprisingly effective, police officers in North America. Brian Cox will reprise his role as their captain, Captain John O’Hagen. Marisa Coughlan also returns as Chief Ursula Hansen. Joining them will be newcomers Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford, Andrew Dismukes, Hannah Simone, and Iqbal Theba.
Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet. Knowing those officers, though, they’ll probably start working on it whenever they’re good and ready. Or perhaps only if Canada decides to attack!
