Super Mario World

Oops! It appears that the title for the sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” might have been unveiled in a press release for NBCUniversal’s recent upfronts, and it’s tentatively called “Super Mario World.

The title of “Super Mario World” suits perfectly as it’s a sequel, since at the end of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Yoshi appears – a character who originally showed up in the Super Nintendo game called “Super Mario World“. This aligns with details when the sequel was announced last year.

Title leak

It appears that some observant viewers noticed NBCUniversal altered and omitted “Super Mario World” in their announcement, which suggests that the title might not yet be finalized or entirely accurate. It could simply be a temporary label.

NBCUniversal has taken out references to “Shrek 5” and “Minions 3,” as these are broader titles for potentially differently-titled upcoming films in the Shrek and Minions series.

Indeed, “Super Mario World” is noticeably more detailed compared to both “Shrek” and “Minions.” It might be called “The Super Mario World Movie” as a fitting title.

Irrespective, once more, it aligns perfectly with the post-credit sequence from the initial film and the information disclosed about the upcoming sequel (as detailed below).

What happened in The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

In “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” the characters Mario and Luigi are transported from Brooklyn to the Mushroom Kingdom. There, they join forces with Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong in an effort to prevent Bowser from seizing control of the world by harnessing the Power Star’s power.

The movie concludes with a massive showdown in Brooklyn, during which Mario and Luigi vanquish Bowser by employing the Super Star. Subsequently, they elect to reside permanently within the Mushroom Kingdom.

In an extra scene after the credits roll, the camera glides through the sewers of Brooklyn, revealing a cracked green-spotted egg – hinting at the upcoming appearance of Yoshi, a character well-known from the classic Super Mario World game on the Super Nintendo.
